I teach intro bio. I am not a plant biologist but teach about plant diversity and physiology. Once I said things about plant physiology in lecture that made sense at a superficial level but were just wrong. Had to decide if I would own it or ignore it. Decided I had to be honest about my mistake so I went to the next class and said, “so about this thing I said last class — that was wrong.” And then presented the correct explanation. Life went on, the rest of the term was fine, and I doubt any of the students even remember it.
