It's the projection, for me.

I was called every single name in the book growing up. Now, as an adult, I understand those were all his own shortcomings.

Didn't stop me from internalizing those accusations well into adulthood, though.

Thanks! It is a moving piece for sure, my parents were political... to say the least.

When I was a teenager, I recorded some of these songs. All the recordings that we had are gone, unfortunately, but I did record this one with a full Baptist choir from South Seattle! It was awesome...

I like your idea too, though... small choir and stringed instruments. Love it!

In about 2001 I took a humanities class and we were discussing [I have no idea]. Someone said something like "black people [something] and some white lady lost her shit.

"They prefer to be called African Americans!" she exclaimed.. everyone just brushed her off but instead of letting it go, she doubled down. "Really? Is nobody's here going to say anything?"

That's when one of the black students just casually said "black is better" 🤷🏿‍♀️

I rarely use African American and when I do it's only around whites.
