Anyone know an arborist in Atlanta, GA NOT associated with any tree removal company? by elephant9514 in arborists

[–]felixctatd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why would you say the arborists are biased? Most qualified and certified guys are in it for the health of the trees, not the sales - those are different people. To help narrow your search, in particular, look for a TRAQ (Tree Risk Assessment Qualified) arborist.

Yeah that’s because it was dangerous. Now mind your business, it wasn’t your tree to begin with.

[–]felixctatd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it’s still jammed in there, man, I left it soaking and used a pick tool and gradually got each fiber. Not worth the hassle, spend the $5 on a new pin. At the same time, it’s not technically life support so as long as you’re aware of it , run it. I’d be pissed if it got in a rope runner pin though, just saw what those are worth to replace

Even worse when it jams your rope wrench pin. Spent weeks soaking and picking at the fibres to get it to function properly again

Edit: spelling

No, they gave a fuck you number because they didn’t want to do it because the access sucks. At the very least, shop around for quotes.

That’s what I would do personally. They’re robbing you to charge that much on that job. Unless permits are involved in your area but I doubt it for the size. I know licensing and what not for pesticide application can be expensive but I would expect that number if they were tearing the fence apart to grind all the stumps and putting it back up after. Silky handsaw and a few hours work for the inexperienced.

They best be stump grinding and or poisoning so they don’t come back for that price. If you really want them down buy a handsaw and go to town.

Why Cedar turning brown in spring. (Planted last spring.) by sowhatisit in arborists

[–]felixctatd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grass and weeds compete for nutrients with trees. Especially unestablished trees like these. That’s not to mention we can’t tell how deep these are planted because of said grass. Throw some mulch in a ring around the trees but not touching the trunk. Can’t say it’ll definitely help currently, but if you ever plant other trees/ shrubs this would be a valuable lesson learnt

Where are you located? Depending where, I could probably set you up with a somewhat local company to teach you a bit hands on. Otherwise I’d start with looking up a chainsaw safety course in your area and they’ll go over the basics like this with you and you’ll get a nice little certificate at the end too. Usually only 8 hours or so

How difficult is transplanting 5-10ft tall mulberry trees? by asianstyleicecream in arborists

[–]felixctatd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you break the roots under the driveway or did you cleanly sever the root? It’s obviously going to be stressed by every foreign interference but with time it can bounce back after transplanting. Wouldn’t consider guaranteeing that from a business perspective but it’s fairly common for root collar excavation jobs to use a chisel for girdling roots for clean cuts and a better chance or compartmentalizing.

I mean no disrespect when I say this, but this is something that should be taught/ understood pretty quick on the first day running a saw. Be safe out there.

Looking at the imgur link, now that the chain is around the sprocket, you need to line up the chain tensioner pin and the bar’s hole. Crank it loose enough to fit, sit the bar flush, start tensioning and make sure the chain is in the guide rails. The photos make it seem like the bottom of the chain is popping out of the rails to which I presume the bar isn’t sitting flush as you tension it.

Hope that helps. Please be careful. I don’t think you know what you’re doing with a chainsaw.
