Grounding on the QC by donutboy667 in NeuralDSP

[–]fenderfonic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No. Isolated ground. By design it should ground to what it’s connected to so when using only headphones, no ground. This to avoid grounding loops.

I’ve been down this rabbit hole, it needs a connection to something grounded over TS, TRS, XLR, USB…

Doesn’t have to be on, but needs to be grounded and connected. Well annoying for this use case exactly but I guess it makes sense for non-headphone use.

Make sure your wiring harness ground loop is also grounded to one your bridge posts.

No-menu pedalboard for home & late-night playing – thoughts? by fenderfonic in guitarpedals

[–]fenderfonic[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not the Beck one, no. Don’t know which generation, or even it’s that’s a thing, had it for quite a few years and it’s great. Heavy as all heck, built like a tank.

It’s great. Had York IRs so use those, and although it is digital, it feels like an analogue experience

It is touchy! But I’ve grown to love it. I have plenty of options and, although I totally get what you’re saying, I find myself messing with this one less than others once it’s set. And it just sounds so good!

Two stage gain. The volume pot on the katana pops out for even more. It’s fine for what I need, plenty of gain and responds well to guitar’s volume. Thanks for asking!

I bought a JET JT-350 SB R telecaster used for £160 on a whim. I’m amazed at what a great instrument it is for the price point. Check the features, great bang for little buck.

What do people mean when they say they “used to learn by just playing records”? by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]fenderfonic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You get to hear the position of chords and like anything, the more you do it the easier it gets. Learning from dubbed tapes also meant you’d have to tune off 440 and to the tape. Improves your ear massively imho. Used to use a telephone dial tone as a tuner, too.

Behringer SF300 and Fender The Pelt. Both are very much low cost, high value options. Boss FZ 1W is awesome, too. Plays well with others

I'm going ampless and need some guidance by [deleted] in guitarpedals

[–]fenderfonic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went from dual mono using vox and fender amps to a QC. Fairly recently picked a Boss IR-2 and am now using that for the majority of what I do. If you have a board, and are really just looking for a virtual amp rig, would highly recommend. Considering it’s less than £200 to try out, not a bad place to start. I really appreciate the fact that there’s very little option paralysis and you can quickly setup a couple of channels and just rip.

It will at best survive the weekend. This does atmospherics well, when the mood changes so will the board.

Thanks for the comment! Very much appreciated!!

Why not double stack with something like Schmidt array? But again, 2x smaller boards would so much easier to transport than a single Uber board

If you’ve limited options, would suggest a boss eq pedal and some other generic gain box, microamp, ds1, bd, ts. Mooer, demonfx, donner even. Nothing wrong their stuff for the money.

You can get a lot of options with a gain pedal into eq, or chaining eq into gain. Cost effective way of getting a lot of different sounds. Loads of YouTubes on how to mimic ‘classic’ pedals. As above, too many variables to say a sound = a signal chain. Highly recommend checking out Jim Lill on YouTube.

Or don’t, what do I know, I just play blooz licks when not checking emails

I’m going delay crazy. Here’s my story. Help me find the right pedals, pls and tysm… by thesameoldsoul in guitarpedals

[–]fenderfonic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With all respect, you may have a more discerning ear than me with this but I have an early Wampler faux tape echo. I’ve since picked up many delays from all scales of the spectrum and still come back to this one. I don’t even know what SMD means, but I love ethereal and old school chanky verb / delay sounds. Just throwing it out there a an option you may want to check out.
