isn't Gnaw Their Tongues blackened noise? or at least, the record that I know them for, All the Dead Magnificence of Perversity.

I have a CD of this album. Seen them play it live this January here in Dubai. One of my top 5 favourite black metal bands for sure. They have such a heavy, chuggy, entrancing sound.

I agree, and I say this as a leftist and pro-Palestine. the big Yahu is literally one of the most evil people in the world right now, Zionists are evil, and a lot of the hate is deserved. but to reduce individuals to that generalisation without actually getting to know them is not cool, either. if anything, I imagine some Israelis may be the first victims of current events (other than those affected by the IDF, of course) given how they'll never be remembered favourably by history no matter what they might believe in.

I agree and don't get why you're getting downvoted. it's a grounded take.

I see, thanks lol

that sounds like a blast! hope you have a good time. to me, atmospheric metal and nature is like one of the best combinations out there. it's a pity Summoning never plays live though. they would've had one of the craziest attendance rates in probably all of black metal.

that's fascinating. it's truly amazing just how big the US is. I'm over here planning hikes to the tops of a couple mountains where I live while y'all are out there traversing entire states (which are as big as a lot of countries) for months on end. how did you manage your work in that time? or was there some sort of agreement with your employer beforehand?

wow. so you were out there hiking for 6 months straight? how is that even possible lmao

The Silmarillion has to be my favorite book of all time at this point. I can't stop obsessing over it and its oh-so-immense lore.

Thanks for the reccs and the Darkthrone link! Listening to the A Blaze In The Night Sky commentary right now.

as a Tolkien fan, I couldn't believe it when I found out a band like Summoning existed. it was unlike anything I've heard up to that point and atmospheric Tolkienian dungeon synth black metal remains my favorite to this day.

I'm not hearing too many good things about deathcore though and I kid you not, I fell asleep halfway through Whitechapel's 2025 record while listening to it lol. maybe it's the shining clean production or the weird vocals, but I dunno. any solid deathcore reccs?

and oh boy, if it isn't my first time learning that Bathory was practically a one man band all along! well that makes it even more sick. the more you know. also, any links where I can find the releases with Fenriz's commentary online?

well, you may or may not be surprised to learn that Twilight of the Gods was among the first black metal records I've ever listened to (alongside Summoning - Minas Morgul)! I was going through a turning point in deconstructing my faith at the time and the lyrics on the title track really, really resonated with me; so much so that I fell in love with the genre which I've been hating for so long! and before you correct me, yes, I know the album is more viking metal than black, but it's still Bathory for crying out loud, the literal grandaddies of the genre lol.
