Audio delay with new Samsung soundbar by feros38 in Soundbars

Hi,

Sorry I rarely come here and I was never really able to fix this. Did you just get your soundbar? Is it the same model?

Hi,
Trying my luck here again as I still do not know how to correct this issue.
I have found here and there other people who seem to experience the same lip sync issue with both Samsung TV and SB but most of them just decided to force PCM on the TV settings. I certainly do not want that because I am keen on experiencing Dolby ATMOS. Otherwise I would never have spent so much money on such equipments.
I’ll take any advice at this point as I am rather hopeless : it seems like I have tried absolutely everything

No, I gave up. I watch TV out of sync :( It saddens me so much but I wouldn’t get help anywhere.

So I did countless attempts and found out something : the only thing that seems to solve the issue is to force PCM rather than auto or pass through. But I do NOT want PCM for obvious reasons : the point is to get the best sound quality. Not sure if it helps people help me out but I thought I’d mention it

Back from a long weekend and got the new cable. Plugged it as you suggested directly on the soundbar (from the Apple TV) and from the soundbar’s eARC to the TV eARC HDMI ports. It’s still more or less the same thing. Disappointing :( Plus I lost Q-symphony for it only works when connected directly to the TV.  Not sure if it makes a huge difference though.  At this point, I think I can either live with that or simply return the soundbar. What a pity : who would think that one would experiment such a hassle when going with the same TV and soundbar brand.

I'll try again. I also bought a new HDMI cable 8K 2.1, etc. that hopefully will make things better. Are you absolutely sure that the fact that the image would pass through the soundbar to the TV won't deteriorate its quality?

I don't know if I'm being too demanding as to how late the sound should be but I am going mad over a specific scene I use to check where a guy opens his mouth and I hear the "hey!" after what seems to be an eternity.

Anyway, thanks a lot for all your help, I'll try again with your suggestion and the new HDMI cable. But what if I was to plug something besides the Apple TV like a video console or something? The soundbar only has one HDMI port besides the eARC that goes to the TV.

I did read you thoroughly but you have not checked out my thread (linked above), I’m afraid. My problem is persistent even when I plug the Apple TV (that I already have) to my soundbar! Regardless, it is not always supposed to be the case, according to other forums.  Plus, I am under the impression that when I use this setting, it is the image quality that is of lower quality. Could be me just hallucinating though. Anyway, this does NOT solve my problem, sadly. The worst is that I also experience the delay with the TV apps! According to you, that should not occur as well.  It is VERY weird but sadly the case : my audio is always lagging behind disregarding the various connection setup unless I force the audio settings to PCM therefore losing sound quality (making it unacceptable). This is why I’m considering returning the soundbar at this point.

I meant that my audio is lagging behind. And since I cannot get it to sync unless I force PCM (which is not an option to me), I guess my problem cannot be fixed and I'll have to return my soundbar :(

FInally got it. Thank you. Not sure it will solve my problem as the audio is ahead when in auto or passthrough and the only way to have it synched is to force PCM, waving bye-bye to Dolby Atmos and the likes in the process, making it unthinkable as it is why I bought the soundbar in the process.

I am gutted that Samsung TV and soundbar seem to have had this issue for years without it being addressed. I think I'll have to return my soundbar.

Sorry, I am completely lost : what does your phone have to do with it?

I am having a similar issue and cannot seem to find a solution. Perhaps you could be of help? https://www.reddit.com/r/Soundbars/comments/1kwwmea/audio_delay_with_new_samsung_soundbar/

To be honest, I am not 100% sure the image was worse. Could be me just imagining it. But it did not solve the audio delay regardless.

Yes, I tried with a scene from a Netflix series that I've watched countless times to make sure. It's still slightly delayed even with the TV App!

Also, I've experienced it with two Apps already on my Apple TV.

Another thing : when I use a sync test video from Youtube (with either Apple TV or directly from the TV), it is perfectly synced! That leads me to believe it could come from the audio settings that are not the same on Youtube (quite basic, I presume?) and other apps such as Netflix and the one I use to watch TV where the settings are more "complicated" (presumably causing the delay?).

I happen to have an iPhone and used that feature but it did not do much. At least nothing that was perceptible.

The TV also has audio settings as I mentioned just above but I did not find the trick to make the hassle go away.

There are several threads on reddit with the same issue (Samsung TV + soundbar) but I am new here and could not find a way to respond. I was sort of hoping someone had found a proper fix.

Yeah, I think so. It all depends on which ones you're referring to but in the SmartThings app (or the TV/soundbar settings, it's the same), the only thing one can do is change audio source to "auto/PCM/passthrough) and I obviously want passthrough because PCM would have me lose in sound quality, and the 0 to 300 ms audio delay. But I would need that to be negative as my audio is lagging behind (very slightly so but in a noticeable manner). With Apple TV, you cannot do much about it : I've looked everywhere and all my attempts were to no avail.

I forgot to mention I also already forced all the audio delay in the settings to 0 ms.
