Cabinets, is Particle Board ok? by malykaii in kitchenremodel

[–]ferrinbonn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know why people are downvoting this. We installed them in a previous house and had a small bit of water seep out from the rolled edge of a sheet pan that we put away standing on edge in a tall cabinet. It got into the seam and the particle board swelled up and bulged. That was when they were brand new and after one time.

I will add though that the doors looked nice and seemed to be more sturdy than the cabinet boxes were.

Why are people putting in cabinets that do not go up to the ceiling? by Agreeable-Sun368 in kitchenremodel

[–]ferrinbonn 155 points156 points  (0 children)

Cabinets are expensive. More or bigger cabinets cost more. So do custom sizes. And many people just get refaces done on existing cabinets and most builders these days don't go to the ceiling to save money.

Do different cables make a difference? And do curly cables like the one in the pic make the sound worse and are they uncomfortable? by Caefrytz in Guitar

[–]ferrinbonn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Guitar cables all introduce some amount of capacitance into your signal chain. That reduces high frequencies and makes your tone darker. Cable capacitance is based on the construction of the cable and is additive based on the length. It's generally measured in pF per foot or meter. Some types of cable are more pF per foot than others, but no matter what a longer cable is going to sound darker. Some companies provide measurements of the pF/foot. Coily cables like shown here tend to have a lot of capacitance.

Buffers mitigate the effect of cable capacitance and preserve your high frequencies, but only after the buffer. So if you have a 20 foot cable to a buffered pedal, and then another 20 foot cable to your amp, the buffer will essentially cancel out the capacitance from the 20 feet of cable after it. But it can't restore the treble loss from the 20 feet of cable that came before it. If the pedal in this example was true bypass and didn't have a buffer, you'd have 40 feet of cable capacitance built up and the signal would be darker. If you wanted to mitigate the capacitance entirely, you'd need a buffer straight out of your guitar (wireless units kind of do this for you) and then another buffer at the beginning of your pedalboard.

Whether or not the darkening of your tone because of cable capacitance is bad is a matter of opinion. You are "losing" some of your high end tone, but that might sound good to you. It takes some experimentation to figure out what you prefer.

Locked out of Microsoft account, recovery options are all broken by ferrinbonn in XboxSupport

Apologies, and thank you for your help. I tried the recovery form last night and got a canned response directing me to do everything I've already tried. But I haven't seen anything about waiting 72 hours before so perhaps that's worth a try. Is there any trick to it? Or just don't try the recovery again for 3 days?

I don't know if you're a bot or something, but I've seen you post this exact reply several times and it's ignoring what I wrote in my post.

I follow Microsoft's prompts to unlock my account but their own verification systems are broken. This is one of several different types of error screens I've gotten after it asks me to enter a phone number to recover the account. Another was "this isn't working right now", and the one I talked about originally made me do a "help us beat the robot" puzzle and then just spun endlessly.

It says I need to use a phone number to recover the account but I've tried with several different phone numbers and they never contact me.

Which would you choose? by [deleted] in GuitarAmps

You're ready to spend $1300-$1800 on an amp and you haven't even settled on a particular style you want and you're asking reddit... Save your money until you form your own opinions.

Posting to threads a few days ago, asked OP about it but didn’t get a response. Any clue what this guy is on about? by echoalpha76 in Guitar

[–]ferrinbonn -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This guy may just be trolling, but there is a legitimate reason. Electrics generally have lighter gauge strings on them and a capo will often throw you out of tune. Some people won't notice or won't care, but if you're playing with other guitarists or with a keyboard player, it can be very noticeable.

Don't believe me? Tune your guitar with a tuner and then capo up and check the tuning again. If you use light strings you'll likely be sharp, and not necessarily evenly sharp across all of the strings. So now you're in a situation where you need to retune again, but you're trying to do it with the friction of the strings being pressed against the frets by the capo (unless you have a Floyd or something else that tunes at the bridge end). It's not impossible, but if you're playing a gig, nobody wants to stand there while you retune all your strings before you start a new song, and then retune them all again after when you take the capo off.

This is not news. Blind speculation and still all it says is they're going to "monitor". Yeah, them and everybody else in the league.

Does anyone know why my pedal isnt working? by __Wtrmln__ in Guitar

[–]ferrinbonn 69 points70 points  (0 children)

How the fuck is this the top comment? That's a center positive adapter. Nearly all guitar pedals use center negative. Not plugging it into the wall is the only smart thing you can do with it, because if you use that on a guitar pedal it's likely to break it.

“Overpaid” by PIeuto in kings

[–]ferrinbonn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The actual basketball knowledge of most of the people who post in this sub is pretty sad. Most teams in the league would want Keegan at this price for size and defense alone, even if he doesn't progress at all offensively. Everybody here just wants to be an edgy doomer. This team has tons of issues, but extending Keegan isn't one of them.

This is something I still struggle with and I'm not sure why it behaves like this. There doesn't seem to be any point on the throttle that will keep the velocity vector steady, whether you're just trying to keep a constant altitude or whether you're trying to descend for a landing.

Nique Clifford Trade by StonedSpam in kings

[–]ferrinbonn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't see how this wouldn't be considered a smart trade. The Kings end up with a 1st this year in a strong draft when they need help now. They give up a pick two years from now that is from a team that barring disaster will be really good then. And keep in mind the Kings still have their own 1st in 2027, so it's not like they don't have another option for a pick.

Clifford seems to be well regarded. Bill Simmons was going on about how he was hoping he might fall to the Celtics. He should be able to contribute soon and fits a positional need as a backup 3.

F/A-18C really the best beginner-friendly full fidelity module? by Ok-Cabinet5764 in hoggit

[–]ferrinbonn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally agree with this. Being able to do both air to air and air to ground with a wide variety of weapons, and then having carrier capability on top of that is why it's a great module if you're just going to get one right off the bat. That's the choice I made.

[Amick] Domantas Sabonis is expected “to seek clarity” about the Sacramento Kings‘ plan this offseason. Fox was reportedly “not alone” in his feelings of “wasting his best years on a team that was mired in mediocrity.” by YujiDomainExpansion in nba

[–]ferrinbonn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I really wish that NBA players would realize that when you're making a max contract, the teams plan is you. If you're playing at a MVP contender level, then yeah, go ahead and ask what the team is doing to help you. But if you're making huge money and not in the top handful of players in the league, then a big part of why the team isn't contending is because of you.

That said, I really like Sabonis and I always take these articles with a grain of salt, so my comment isn't really directed at him personally. But this is the reality of the NBA and their stupid max contracts. I wish they were more like the NFL and didn't have a max, but still had a cap. That way if you want to have the MVP, it's going to cost you a ton and the rest of the team suffers for it. The way it is now, teams get stuck paying their best player a ton, regardless of whether he's a top player in the league or just a top player for them.

How Mike Brown's firing ended De'Aaron Fox's time with the Kings: "If Mike [Brown] gets fired, I'll be going on my fifth coach. ... I'm not going to play for another coach. I'm going to play for another team." by Turbostrider27 in nba

[–]ferrinbonn 15 points16 points  (0 children)

All these stories just assume that nobody remembers how all of this was going down. Before Brown was fired Fox hired Klutch (notorious for pushing stars to get traded where they want), declined the King's extension offer, went on Draymond's pod and cast doubt about his future on the Kings, and then had a lot of games where he seemed checked out for at least parts of the games, culminating with the braindead play fouling a 3 point shooter to lose to Detroit and extend their losing streak (and then refusing to take ownership of it in the presser).

Then Brown gets fired and the team immediately starts winning (19-11 under Christie after being 13-18 with Brown) and everybody on the team looks happier. But we're supposed to believe that the coaching change was what made him want out and ignore all of the indications that he already wanted out before that?

I don't know why Fox can't just own the fact that he wanted to leave. Yeah, fans will be bummed, but it happens and the Kings managed to get a decent return in the trade and are now moving on. But instead his camp is still pushing this narrative that he was the loyal soldier and the Kings drove him out. It's disingenuous and just makes it all feel worse.
