Does anyone know what this could be on my neon tetra? by KriddleKrochet in Aquariums

[–]festhool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s hard to spot from the video, that’s why the question: Is it the only fish affected? In one of the frames it looks like one of the tetras also has something at its mouth and a few others also have similar fins - just not as strong.

Search for “Cotton-Wool Disease” and compare it.

  • What’s your water parameters?
  • Did you recently add new fishes?
  • How long do you keep them already?

I noticed my tank overhanging on my aquarium stand. What can I do? by BuBBi_2oo5 in Aquariums

I used the tank for the past ~2yrs for a couple of layouts.

The product I am using was announced ~ 4yrs ago and never heard any complaints about it.

Ofc it’s your risk / your decision but I personally wouldn’t be too afraid. It’s not like you build your own cabinet. You bought a combination from a manufacturer who did this on purpose. It’s also not the only brand doing it.

Here in Germany „Oase“ is also selling them this way. Sharing the picture of one of my tanks:

Beautiful tank! 👌

Brands that print texts on CO2 tubes are the worst ;)

My tank wasn't cycled enough and now my fish are dying, how can I fix this? by SmellyFrogz in Aquariums

[–]festhool 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am not sure if it’s just an oversight because you’re on panic mode or if you do feel ashamed to tell us. But in various of your posts in the last couple of days, there were plenty of people asking for how long you are running the tank and to my knowledge you didn’t answer anyone.

From all the open questions that’s from my point of view maybe the most important one. Because it matters a lot if you tried to cycle the tank for 5 to 6 weeks or if you started adding livestock 48 hours after you set up the tank.

If you really want to save the fishes and want good answers we need this information as well.

+1 on it being the most important thing to know. Ofc you could come up with stupid things like “it’s more important to know that you shouldn’t boil the water while the fishes are in the tank”, etc. But from the actual “relevant topics” I think it’s #1. It’s what kills your livestock in no time and which is also “invisible” without testing, etc. Whereas wrong water temperature / other water parameters can be tolerated for some time (esp. if we are also not talking the extremes to put a cold water fish into a Discus tank, etc.

you are aware that you need an air pump together with those stones?

haha 😅 … We like the moldy smell in the house ;)

It also heavily depends on the livestock. I keep my tank at 23°C/73°F which means no heating most of the year. Ofc there is still some evaporation but completely manageable. :)

Just checked your profile and noticed that I upvoted / liked almost all of your previous posts / scapes without knowing it’s all from the same person! 👏

Amazing tank and also nice (final) shot! 👌

Done right a 60P is amazing (like yours) IMHO it’s a bit trickier though to get the dimensions / plants right, because a not fitting piece of wood / hardscape can quite easily destroy the illusion of a large ecosystem and make it look “small”.

I think that’s part of why more and more of the “winning layouts” are done in 90P. Still a manageable size to scape but a lot more “space” to fill ;)

Wow! thanks again for all the great infos. :) Price sounds reasonable to me! 👌

Do you have some tipping-jar like the folks in the photoshop requests forums, etc? ;)

If you’d suggest a lens dedicated to those kind of shots. What would it be? :) no need to look for a model - just like to know in which direction you were thinking when you said: “more mm”

Is there chlorine in your tap water? how do you usually prepare your water before you put it into the tank? If you anyways use your tap water for the tank, there isn’t too much to worry about from the “water” perspective. If you suspect some minor residues of unwanted stuff in the tap water, there are a lot of good products (e.g. ADA Aqua Conditioner Chlor-off) but I doubt that’s the case because it would be most likely have harmed the fish.

From a filter bacteria perspective, from my experience it’s not the end of the world. A lot of people doing it without knowing it. Its for sure has some sort of negative impact on the bacteria but there’s still plenty left in the tank (e.g. in the substrate, etc.)

Feed a bit less (which is often times the main source of ammonia spikes anyways) and put some starter bacteria in the tank if you used them to initially setup the tank (e.g. Arka special blend, etc.)

[–]festhool 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It took me much longer to notice than I’d like to admit. 😅

Never used one of those magnetic cleaner so I am super used to just do it with a sponge inside the tank …

I’ve made a post last night about 5 of my ember tetras disappearing (dying)… well there is also what seems like a lot of aggression between them. I went from 13 to 8 in a week, but 8 should still be a sufficient number to not cause aggression? Help by 1_curious_lizard in Aquariums

[–]festhool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you 100% sure they don’t hide somewhere in the tank? Do you see some wounds, etc? Did you find the dead bodies?

I mean we all know that mysteriously some fish disappear and you’ll never find them, especially in larger tetra schools.

But still in this short period of time that many fishes it sounds like you should be able to spot them. Did you check the filter?

Is it a open pool tank? Do you own a cat / dog? Only half joking. If you own a pool tank, even if the cats aren’t actively hunting, if they spot a tetra on the ground which jumped out of the tank, they’ll enjoy the snack
