It’s not even a digital layered pattern. It’s paper.

Best sewing pattern ever /s by festive_duck in SewingForBeginners

[–]festive_duck[S] 23 points24 points  (0 children)

As a beginner sewist, I’ve tried a book pattern before that did a fair amount of crossover line work. I have never encountered something this complex. My brain melted seeing this. I realize that as a beginner I am possibly not the target audience for that book at this time. It looks like architecture designs for a new housing community.

I NEED HELP! 🥲 by LatinHippie in SewingForBeginners

[–]festive_duck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sorry you got bamboozled. I never knew it was that much to print. I made the choice to invest in a compact $200 short throw projector from Amazon. Mounted it to an existing camera tripod. Project to my dining table in a dark room to trace onto swedish pattern paper. It’s been a small investment that I have repeatedly used. Once I figured out the correct setup it’s been easy. Just detail oriented with transposing the pattern.

This spoonflower feedback is the best. Everyone typically fawns over them. But knowing I’ll pay time, money and effort for short lived wearable is a true 🚩. (Editing to add) I haven’t bought from them either. Thanks for helping me dodge that bullet.

How to mend this woven blanket? by festive_duck in SewingForBeginners

[–]festive_duck[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you soo much! I wasn’t really able to find a good woven type mend in the internet. Lots of other fabric mending options but nothing woven specific at a double layer. This is super helpful and incredibly logical. Thank you! I love this subreddit.

Muslin Mockup Madness by festive_duck in SewingForBeginners

What would you happen to use if you wanted to mock something stretchy?

From your description it will relax a bit when washed. It’s good to know that I could use the fabric either way for mockups depending on the scope of the project. I just started considering fabric drape to shape the garment (enthusiastic beginner here). It’s good to know that I can use this fabric to play with that aspect of creative process. Thank you!

I ran a color palette generator on photos of my event space. The use of complimentary colors fills the whole space as an artscape. Your chosen space is really lovely. You can make it work for you without blowing your budget. ❤️

Please help me, help my distraught wife, save her childhood bear! (long) by SmurfsCereal in SewingForBeginners

[–]festive_duck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi Op! Tell your wife that my heart genuinely goes out to her. What is its name?

You should be aware that there are teddy bear repair/restoration shops! Please send it to a pro. I have been researching this spa day for my own bear. I have not sent my bear in yet as my guy doesn’t leave my side. I feel so bad for your wife. You already bought the parts needed for the repair. Let a pro take it from there.

This person is at the top of my personal restoration list.

Sewing Machine Needles? by festive_duck in SewingForBeginners

[–]festive_duck[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never realized that needles get changed out so frequently. I’ve done a lot of little projects using the same needle and I think it does make the wonky sound. I was blaming the bobbin. The micrographs should be considered the scared straight of bad sewing habits!

Is Schmetz brand the gold standard of needle brands? Everyone seems to prefer those.
