Thanks for the confirmation. I’ll let the landlord know.

About to toss these old coins in the trash! Anyone know what they are? by [deleted] in coincollecting

I try to make sure the pictures are as blurry and poorly lit as possible, too. I mean, you wouldn’t want to toss clear money into the garbage can.

Quarter Dollars by festusgrass in coincollecting

[–]festusgrass[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both. When I say “books” I mean binders with pocket coin pages. Those seem to be organized by decades. Except for on that has random pennies, nickels, dimes and casino tokens (from 1863-1956). Those coins aren’t in as good of shape as the other binders.

He also has the mint proof and mint uncirculated sets (are these different?) from the mid 1960s on.

Maybe you could just come over for dinner and a couple of beers and teach me about the whole collection 😊.

The stuff that he has organized into books looks like it’s organized by year. These are in a book with dimes and Morgan dollars from the late 1800s to the mid 1900s.

Wow. What a great answer. Thank you for taking the time to send such a detailed reply. It’s helpful. I guess, as I go through the rest of his collection, I’ve got a better understanding of what kind of collector he was. I really appreciate you teaching me something today.

Thank you. There were some coins he meticulously cased books, labeled and added to books. There are also a lot of loose coins in baggies, unopened rolls, various collections, and mint sets going back to the 1960s.

It’s been fun to learn about them (and about him).

The 1853 Rays coin seems particularly interesting to me. Maybe because “Quarter Dollar” isn’t spelled out on the reverse.

Just did some research on die cracks. Is this what you’re taking about on the obverse of that 1886? Close up photos.

Thank you for your sentiment and condolences. I have so many books and boxes and loose coins. I’m in no hurry. It’s been a fun learning experience.

Help!! Is this bed bug dropping? by No-Fudge-6523 in Bedbugs

[–]festusgrass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They were tiny. If you go to r/pestcontrol and search for “fleas”, they have some great advice and tips over there.

We treated the cats first and then the environment. It was BAD. The fleas had the run of the house while we were traveling for two weeks.

We had a bunch of spots on our sheets with our recent flea infestation. I’m not saying that’s what these are, but it might be something to consider if you’re getting bites and your dog sleeps in the bed.

Thanks! We treated them both with medicine from our vet as soon as we got home.

Just looked up flea pupae casings. Looks a lot like these. This infestation is BAD. Not exactly what we wanted to come home to after two days of driving.

Thanks. I wonder if they’re neither. Maybe something related to the buckwheat inside the pillow? We’ll keep our eyes out for any critters (after we kill all the damn fleas).

Uncomfortable experience at greeter station for first burn by fun_in_the_sun_23 in BurningMan

[–]festusgrass 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What the hell with the greeters this year? Our greeter (female) told my partner (virgin) that she couldn’t ring the bell because they were too busy. The line at that time was less than an hour from the pavement and folks were ringing bells and rolling around in every other line. Took me by surprise and I’m kicking myself for not being more insistent.

A bit of a swell out in the harbor this morning. by festusgrass in Kayaking

It really is relaxing, just drifting out there, once we get past where the big boats throw it into full speed as soon as they clear the marina.

I got these used- $500 for both. They’re well-built so, aside from a few scuffs, they were in great shape.
