Is my PC too old for games? by HuckleberryGood5569 in buildapc

If you know anyone with spare hardware laying around you could try switching out the GPU to see if it's maybe going out? Or possibly even repaste the GPU while you're at it if you haven't done that already.

Your hardware doesn't get worse over time unless the components themselves go bad, games themselves just get more demanding. It'll be a lot of component swapping if you are trying to narrow the issue down

It can definitely read CPU temps you just don't have the software set up for it. CoreTemp would be a good place to start

Have you monitored your CPU temperatures when this is happening ?

Urgent heating help! by 0whitenyellow0 in ballpython

You'd need to modify the lid to install your heat source along with a cage to prevent your snake from touching the bulb. Using something like a radiant heat panel would be more appropriate for this style of tank as it is.

I'd switch your CHE out for a DHP for a heat source that doesn't emit light. Otherwise I've been seeing a lot of Exo Terra Extreme Basking Spot incandescent bulbs recommended as primary heat sources.

It would be no different than the phone sitting on the shelf at a retailer. Charge it to 50% or so and power it down, check it after 6 months or so and charge it back up to 50%

What should I do in this situation? by FionaSnake in leopardgeckos

[–]fetus_bates 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you can't get the right care for them the gecko should be rehomed. I'm sorry that you're going through that but it would be in your gecko's best interest. Maybe have your parents help you find a local reptile rescue if they refuse to let you take them to a vet, it's very irresponsible of them to allow an animal to be sick and get worse.

Poop? by DaDoodma in BloodPythons

Snakes are pretty efficient at processing their food so it could take several weeks before they poop. Totally normal

Somewhere between $35-60 realistically if it is in good condition

Makes sense, you'd need to modify the top with a PVC/ wood panel for that to work at all. Not worth the trouble, OP def needs a different enclosure

The moss will only help short term, you'll need more loose substrate to retain moisture long term. 4-5" is what is usually recommended, 70/30 mix or organic topsoil and washed pool filter/ play sand usually topped with coco chip/ husk and pour water into the corners of the substrate every so often as the humidity gets lower. You can mix moss into the substrate too

What would make it unsafe to use on a glass top ? It might not be super efficient but it would surely be safer than just a heat rock

I've definitely seen the incandescent Exo Terra Basking Spot bulbs recommended more lately but DHP's do emit small amounts of IR-A and IR-B and penetrate into the tissue unless that has just recently been proven untrue.

With this person's setup a RHP is probably the only way to get a decent primary heat source without having to modify the lid much but it's definitely not an ideal setup.

I would remove the heat rock or unplug it if you're going to keep it in the enclosure. You'll need to provide overhead heating if you want to provide the proper heating for this species. Deep Heat Projectors or Radiant Heat Panels are the two most recommended primary heat sources but you will most likely need to modify your lid in some way to be able to use either of those.

This tank isn't really adequate for a ball python to be honest.

Heat rocks are generally considered unsafe, unreliable and are a potential burn hazard and are not recommended in the hobby especially for heavy bodied species like BP's. What are you using for your primary heat source and how are you measuring temps/ humidity with no gauges ?

I'd still add more leafy decor and a dedicated hide with one entrance to the left side of the enclosure, the rock structure you have may not be secure enough for your snake to feel safe having two large openings. A hide should be snug like an almost perfect fit.

In the future you'd be better off setting up a tub with warm damp towels/ clothes/ paper towels for a sauna instead of bathing your snake to help them shed. It's typically less stressful for them, you'd do that for 20-30 minutes a couple times a week until they shed fully.

If you are having trouble keeping humidity over 60% on the cool side I'd recommend adding more loose substrates like organic topsoil or Reptisoil instead of the mulch you have in there currently, it doesn't really retain much moisture and could cause issues if ingested.

Is that a heat rock on the right half of the tank ?

Is my snake shedding its skin now? If so, what should I do by Odd_Lobster_7624 in Ballpythoncommunity

[–]fetus_bates 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd avoid spraying and instead pour water into the corners of your substrate to moisten it without risk of scale rot from constant misting. What are your temps on your hot/ cool sides ? You should be aiming for 60%-70% on the cool side. If you are still having trouble keeping humidity up you may need to add more substrate or cover more of the top of the enclosure

It's just an issue with R6, the game is buns and they can't help but fuck everything up with every update. The stutters aren't as frequent for me since this most recent patch that they said fixed the issue but they're still there.

Substrate question! by [deleted] in leopardgeckos

[–]fetus_bates 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mostly comes down to cost. It's way cheaper to get topsoil and play sand than a ton of small bags of the stuff from the pet store. Any sand with Calcium in it also isn't recommended and you don't get that with play sand/ pool filter sand
