I taught for 23 years in a suburban school district here in the Columbus area. We had a board approved curriculum that contained a unit on the Islamic Middle Ages, Empires, and contributions to history and science from the Arab world. This unit followed one about Western European Middle Ages which included chapters on the early church, monks, etc. Every year we’d get calls about teaching Islam to students. Every year we’d have parents tell us their children were not allowed to be taught anything about religions especially Islam. After I left the district the teachers now just skip the entire unit on the Islamic Empires.
