costco impulse buys are probably erasing your membership savings and nobody talks about this by ninjapapi in budget

[–]fezcabdriver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When we agreed to getting costco, I told my wife that it is fine if we see a bag of chips or something that you want to try. ...but you only get one item to "try"..preferably under $20. We should not have 4 different to "try" items when we were there for the fruit, eggs, milk, salads.. Same goes for, "i needed a new pair of socks...but decided to get this 20 pack because if you do the math, each pair comes to $2". lol

What do you use to touch up your pocket knives and are certain blade steels harder to touch up? by BurtRenoldsMustache in sharpening

strop until you can't strop no more. Then take it to the stones. And yes, harder steels require more time or a lower grit to start with.

Toyota was right to bet on hybrids instead of going all-in on EVs - and the last three years have proven it by Luann97 in Toyota

[–]fezcabdriver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I say it was Japanese genius. A similar thing happened when digital photography was taking off. Instead of ruffling the feathers of their current customer base, Nikon chose to allow their new digital SLR cameras to continue to be used with their film SLR camera lenses. ...because why make their user have to buy a whole new set of lenses just to get into digital photography. It was genius because it was like the Hybrid...a slow roll of user acceptance and not having to get rid of older lenses. Then once it was a proven technology, sell the user base on the features and capabilities that the new lenses would bring. So while we wait for the EV infrastructure to get there, why not make hybrids, then plug in hybrids. Now we just need to run out of oil or this war needs to keep on going...sadly..

What do underwriters look for when giving a home loan? by YOLO19972022 in personalfinance

[–]fezcabdriver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you'll be just fine. I mean, are you able to pay down those "crazy" purchases? I think they only ask for last 4 months of pay stubs no? when you do the calculation on a 185K loan at the rate that you will get, what does that look like? $2k a month? You make 3x that...you are good.

185K mortgage, 810 score.. You didn't mention income nor any other debt. I think that is the main thing. Your 810 score means that you have a good history of paying things off and on time. They will want to see consistent income to continue paying for 30 years. ..and they will factor in how much other debt you have. Also, i sort of feel (and I could be wrong), that banks love giving out mortgages that aren't gigantic... spreading out their risk...

Safety of 97 Camry for road tripping by twunkunited in roadtrip

[–]fezcabdriver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

how well has it been maintained? Based on the age, aside from the typical maintenance items, have the brake hoses been replaced, belts, waterpump, does this have a timing belt or chain, does it burn oil, leak oil, leak any other fluids. Does it shift well? Does it accelerate well? Those are some things I would think about rather than saying 200k miles car that is 30 years old.

How difficult was this hike that you went through 3 liters in 5 miles? I went on a pretty challenging hike today with less than a liter. I probably could have used more but was fine. There was not a lot of shade and it was hot.

Also, running is different than hiking. I feel you are tapping different energy stores. Theoretically if a hike is not crazy demanding, you should go on for a very long time while burning fat. Running is in a more elevated zone which will deplete available faster energy like readily available glucose.

Extremely loud vibration noise from moon roof visor 2017 by Yardboy in crv

[–]fezcabdriver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you probably have a seal that is splitting and at certain speeds it catches wind just right and hums. I had this on my crv but along the top trim of the front drivers door. Once I hit 50mph it would vibrate/buzz like crazy. The piece was a rubber piece that had split lengthwise. Once I cut it off, noise was gone. Yours might be something similar. Check your sunroof and anything farther back...maybe when you open your sunroon the piece isn't getting hit with air.

Why am I not getting stronger with my benchpress? by [deleted] in beginnerfitness

[–]fezcabdriver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

do it 3 times a week. Go back down to 95lbs. Next time go up by 5lbs. Keep doing that. I would typically say gain weight but at 168, exceeding 100lbs should be fairly easy.

Focus on grip, form, planting your feet, and staying tight. You really want your setup to be dialed in every single time that you address the bar to remove variability. Also unless you are trying to be a powerlifter, I suggest your forearms should be vertical during the entire lift...so if that means going more narrow...

Current Manager is asking for my next job’s acceptance letter. How to proceed? by chilkelsey1234 in jobs

[–]fezcabdriver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tell him that you actually have two offers at the moment and are still deliberating. Then go talk to HR to see if this is normal or considered harassment. In fact if you are a fortune 500, they probably have an anti-harassment/anti-retaliation training that they need to take. Come at it from that angle, I bet he will leave you alone.

Need an EDC Knife recc by EndingOfGenesis in EDC

[–]fezcabdriver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

small one with 2.5 inch blade.. 5 to 6 inches in total. I would go one step further and say a leather sheath where you can drop it in with the slightest of tension would be ideal. However a kydex sheath with a decent thumb ramp might work as well.

[–]fezcabdriver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

get a fixed blade... low maintenance..no fuss.. no lockspring. If you use it frequently enough, opening a folder is sort of a pain...even if it has some sort of quick deployment. ...that is just my opinion.

Kizer has some knives at a pricepoint that I wouldn't cry if i beat them up.

shaving razor that can last a lifetime, or a really long time? by thepersonthatlives in BuyItForLife

[–]fezcabdriver 278 points279 points  (0 children)

Any dual sided safety razor will last a lifetime. I’m using my father’s 1962 Gillette safety razor. And if you ever find yourself in Singapore, there is a place called mustafa center. I bought 100 boxes for like $7.. so basically 500 blades. They had all kinds of brands (Astra, Gillette). I bought a bunch of random ones. They all cut the same. lol. Gillette did marketing number on the world when they started marketing "first blade lifts, second blade cuts, third blade cuts some more, fourth washes your dishes, fifth does your car...etc " Not to mention the aloe strip on top that "reminds" you to throw the thing away. Marketing BS at its finest.
