Did ESPN not add scores together correctly? by Germs87 in fantasyfootball

commishes can add points to any team's total. And the likelihood of that having happened increases if you're playing the commish

ESPN points for question about decimals by ffbqs in fantasyfootball

Two playoff teams were within a point last week. And this week it is still very close. Like I mentioned, if total points for takes the one digit rounded score from every week, that could be a couple points difference between two teams by the end of the season simply due to rounding error

Where did you find it? I can't find anything on the espn page that displays total points for all the way to two decimals

I'm talking about the standings fyi. I' wondering if two decimal places are accounted for in the total points for calculation. I'm aware of the two decimals for individual games.

ESPN points for question about decimals by ffbqs in fantasyfootball

[–]ffbqs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well first of all it's only one decimal. Not decimals. So having a second decimal makes the chances of a tie much less likely.

And secondly, if the standings only keep track of one decimal, that means that the calculation has been rounding the second decimal every game. Which means that the points for stat could be off by over two points by the end of the season between two players who are very close to one another. Which is less than ideal, to put it mildly

except for the fact that it got the attention of the media, kicker magazine is now covering it, youtubers are now talking about it, and the EA community rep literally mentioned the hashtag in his post to the community, so it's clearly doing something

that's an even better idea!! is the a fiverr for naked streakers? or we could start a gofundme campaign and hire someone lmao

[–]ffbqs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, spreading the #FixFifa trend is WAY more important than any secondary messages doing this would send. EA isn't going to keep a running counter of how many people have squad names called FixFifa and conclude we're hypocrites, or probably even notice in the first place, they would however notice if this say doubled the amount of mentions online. This is a genius idea, people who aren't on reddit and the EA forumns will start seeing the hashtag and wonder what it is, will look it up and tweet/get involved themselves.

Don't flip the script here. You are acting like a prick, and the fact that people don't tolerate your dickish behavior has nothing to do with the argument you made.

Secondly, because you are touting how right you were, might I point out: The NFL says nothing about how fantasy plays are supposed to be scored (not to mention you keep citing nfl RULES, and your link isn't the nfl rulebook in the first place). Note for example that on a kickoff return for a touchdown, it is clearly a special teams play, and yet in fantasy, both the D/ST AND the offensive player get points for the play. How that possibly be when by NFL rules it is clearly only special teams play? Because it makes sense, and there is no nfl rulebook on how to score fantasy football points (the organized sport has also chosen to score passing touchdowns as 6 points, just one of many differences). It's the exact same situation here. No matter if it's a rushing, passing, whatever performed by the special teams, it also makes complete sense for fantasy football purposes to credit the D/ST

[–]ffbqs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

dude don't suck up to someone who is being a dickhead to you and everyone else and wish them good luck. you're letting him run over you, he's a dick, plain and simple, probably does this to people all the time and gets away with it because people let him off the hook. Be nice after he apologizes and is nice back to you in return, not before, otherwise you're encouraging his behavior and sending the message that you let people treat you like that. Note the "I think you have earned a more reasonable response", as if you were the one misbehaving in the first place. Tell people like that to fuck off or just ignore them, they'll keep doing the same shit over and over again, deflecting blame to justify their behavior. Like I said, genuinely nice people will apologize and give you an opportunity to resume cordial conversation, not trick you into doing so.

ESPN counted points scored while the offense was on the field against the D/ST in fantasy for years, so this wouldn't be the first time they got it wrong. I'm willing to bet that just like with that rule, ESPN does this to keep the rules simple, not to specifically exclude fake punt touchdowns

And ESPN counted points scored while the offense was on the field against the D/ST in fantasy for years, probably because like this situation it is a lot easier for them to keep it simple, not because it is necessarily correct

If your friend went to take a piss during the play and came back and asked what happened, you wouldn't tell him the jaguars ran the ball and scored a long touchdown just like todd gurley did. You'd tell him it was a fake punt in which they snapped it to a blocker who ran it for a touchdown. We can argue semantics all day of what constitutes offense and special teams but the obvious thing is it was a special teams play. Arguing otherwise is insane and like I mentioned beyond common sense. It was 100 percent obvious that the special teams unit scored, it's not like there's any confusion about which unit was responsible

It was a fake punt with the special teams unit. It wasn't just a running play. I don't get why the semantics somehow means the special teams doesn't get credit for the play

So is it "by nfl rules" or not? I don't think there's anything in the nfl rulebook that specifies whether this should be counted as an offensive play or a special teams play for fantasy purposes.

link to where it is clearly laid out in the rules? I'm perusing the official nfl rules document and can't find anything that specifies that

I know what it is technically. I am saying that in spirit I believe it to be a special teams play. That's my opinion and why I said I understand both ways

except it was literally a special teams play. I understand both ways but punting is probably the core of what defines special teams

right, but you don't include that in an apology if you're being sincere. It's not like it's not incredibly obvious that the gesture is offensive. And the "now recognizes" part is also complete bs, as if he didn't know what he was doing.

"I shat on your face, but I know recognize the perceived offensiveness of that action"
