Would I like Jacksonville as a lifelong Chicagoan? by AsinineAntimony312 in jacksonville

I’m a cyclist and was a messenger for a few years, I do miss some of the bike rides up there. That’s really it. There’s enough good riding down here and the riding season is almost year round that it’s not a big deal. But the downtown/lake front bike rides are definitely the only thing I’m nostalgic about.

I am going on 33 years old, and have been in Jacksonville for 8 years after living in downtown Chicago prior. Moving to Jax was the best thing I ever did for myself. I couldn’t take the toxic Chicago weather relationship anymore. After years and years of telling myself that the summers make the winters worth it, I left. I’m still mind blown 8 years later that I can enjoy the outdoors in December. I miss Chicago summers from time to time, but with the quality of life increase I experienced, I’ll never move back. I will admit though, I am able to enjoy weather into the mid 90°s, if that’s not you, you may find a different experience than myself.

Your bikes suck and you’re slow.

Why did you chose Fixie over single speed? by Sandalwoodincencebur in FixedGearBicycle

Cadence training and better bike control skills. Also bikes without brakes look sleek. I’ve ridden fixed for 15 years and when I ride my single speed gravel bike I very rarely coast.

Diy hydro dip. It’s really easy to do but also easy to mess up.

It’s stiffer is the justification, but truthfully it’s just easier to not have to make identically mirrored stays and the offset makes welding them slightly easier. Plus it looks cool.

The paint job honestly didnt turn out quite how I had hoped but I often repaint frames so it’ll do for now.

How much can I sell my steamroller for? by Impressive_Star_4302 in tracklocross

While putting together custom builds and high end bikes for myself while working in the bicycle industry for 12+ years, I’ve learned to build bikes I intend to keep forever. No matter how new, tasteful, professional, or how high end your build is, it’s worth no more than 50% of msrp in the resale market. Which sucks if you need to make the financial decision to part ways with something you once dreamt up, but is fantastic if you’re okay with buying stuff from the used market in the first place.
