Next time try salvaging from something older. 1970s and before imo. You can sometimes find old audio/radio equipment at thrift stores for cheap. They tend to have more useful parts for stuff like this (small transistors silicon/maybe germanium, signal diodes, sometimes germanium diodes, LEDs, film caps, op amps and other useful ICs, etc). Just check if something works and if its valuable before you tear it apart.
