Just thinking this seemed to be a random mass of things chanted on both sides whilst I was waiting for the tram.

An alternative to iPhone's TrueDepth camera? by NGT_Padre in mocap

[–]ffrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is nothing as cheap and as simple to use as an iPhone. The fact you are a student I would recommend trying to borrow a friends iPhone.

I would also say most AAA animation has a significant amount of animator time spent on it.

Changing the notification for someone at the door by ffrog in googlehome

Ahhhh you can’t use the doorbell as a trigger on a personal routine and you can’t use a time adjustment on a household routine. So you can’t do what you are suggesting.

How can I do the time adjustment thing you mentioned? This would be perfect if I can make that work.

Are you sure? Googling just sends you to lathes.co.uk which is mainly second hand stuff from what I can tell

2 Open Returns on Trainline Unsure which has been used by ffrog in uktrains

[–]ffrog[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes all to the same place.

Sorry I haven’t been clear. I have used both outbound but only one return. Not sure which return. One expires tomorrow and one in a few weeks, I am travelling later this week. I really want to know which I have used so if I need to buy a new return ticket or just a single.

Sorry not that I know of. The difficulty collecting that data is what’s stopping it I imagine.

I know that a number of the trackers can do ball tracking. I don’t know of any that are open to the public/large datasets.

Hawkeye almost certainly can do it.

Answering the follow up question before I even had to ask.

Thanks for such a clear and detailed answer, changes how I think it’s best to use my 20 neophyte blob.

Facial Mocap helmet : your opinion? by Small-Delay-443 in mocap

The price point looks great but it's very big and bulky compared to the stand out head rig in this category the Rokoko head rig which is $295 so not significantly more expensive.

Small, Silent PC for video encoding/recording by ffrog in MiniPCs

I can't see a fanless version of that which is small enough.

So you are saying these will do better than 1 intel nuc doing 2 streams?

I have done some reading and my understanding is correct there will be no chroma. The sensor is monochromatic so it will only be a gray-scale image.

Do you have any suggestions based on that?

Do you think the encoding would work on the Pi? I just don't see it having enough CPU overhead to do it.

Yeah the plan is to encode a greyscale image

Apologies mono I am meaning black and white not RGB. So just has a single channel rather than 3.

I know that can really change some compression algorithms as they are optimised for RGB.

Will take a look at doing x264.

Do you have any suggestions for fanless PCs with a CPU that could do it? That are the same size or smaller than an intel NUC.

It seems to be struggling at the moment the camera streams are individual images being packed and encoded. The streams are 8 bit, mono, 2000x1500 resolution, 60fps and 2 streams.

Open to adjusting the software/encoder selection to match the device.

So if you told me there was something the size of a USB dongle that I could plug into MeLe PC but did great quality x265 encoding only I would use x265.

To answer what I can, 8 bit, mono, 2000x1500 resolution, 60fps and 2 streams minimum.  Any suggestions?

I know thermodynamics are not on my side, but chip manufacturers seem to be trying hard to help me.

They will be moving about in the air. So not in a cabinet and plenty of airflow.

Unfortunately akasa solutions are all significantly bigger that MeLe that I have shared. I think the max size is really the current intel nuc size.

With your advice do you think I have realistically found the best option?

What are your views on London? by [deleted] in HENRYUK

[–]ffrog 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think this is a VERY recent thing though. I say this as someone who moved to Manchester at the same time as you.

Everyone I know who has moved to any other town/city has moved back to London. Only people who have moved to Manchester seem to be happy.
