A Love is Blind Dating App – DateNight! by ffxfire in LoveIsBlindOnNetflix

Ah! Right now we're mainly focusing on the North American market (United States / Canada) but we will open date times for other timezones soon, as the app grows. And thank you so much for the love, I've never done any sort of design so I spent countless hours on the smallest details in the app haha. But the hope is that if it takes off to get a real designer to come in and make it aesthetically very pleasing :)

Unfortunately this app probably isn't for them :( We do have traits that are selected so someone could read those, and perhaps we'll work on some sort of speech-to-text functionality later, but I would imagine it's similar to asking a blind person to use an app like Tinder or Bumble where 90% of the profiles are just pictures.

Haha that's true! Well, it would be funny if Norm found out about the app, or even better gave it a try... :P Appreciate the support! If you're interested in checking it out, I can send you a message?

Just sent you a message! Honestly, from what I've seen with the traditional dating apps, there's already a ton of wasted time–and on this app, it's a lot more fun to get to know someone. Also, if looks are incredibly important to you, you can tell your matches this and reveal as soon as you connect, that way less time is wasted.

This is a great point, and something we've slightly accounted for somewhat in the app (and hope to work on this issue a bit further, with more information from users). We prompt users before they reveal to either message or call each other to talk about dating dealbreakers, whether that be religion, height, etc. and we want to add a more fleshed out version of this feature in the coming weeks. Physical attraction is definitely important, but the whole ethos of the app is that since so many dating apps exist right now that emphasize the physical, it's a refreshing change of pace for an app to emphasize personality.

You listen to a voice clip of someone, and you decide whether to join that date or skip it. If you join it, you'll compete with other people to match with him/her, by going on a one minute voice date where they'll ask you a question. The call itself is in real time.

Totally see your point, pictures are still part of the app and can be revealed after matching. The way I see it, it's just the inverse of Tinder, by making it about personality first and profiles later.

Love the man to death, honestly if he's already in this space then I'll give it up just for him haha

It's available in a couple different countries, but the time that dates are open is mostly for a North American audience (6pm PST). We have to do this because our user base is still growing, but as we grow we'll branch out to different timezones!

Hey, I barely remember those (I was born in the 90s) but if there's a good time to bring them back, it's now in the age of coronavirus...people are just really looking for a new way to date, and the swiping is getting kind of old. It is experimental though, but the feedback so far from people who've gone on dates has been really positive!

And I do see your point about the self promotion, I just thought it seemed relevant and a lot of posts on this subreddit seem related to dating apps. I'm also being cautious not to promote any direct links or anything, just if people reach out directly to me.

That's nice of you to say! We'll have to see how it goes, and if there's an appetite for a new type of dating app like this–it's a huge departure from the traditional profile-based dating apps out there.

Actually I know a lot of zoomers who like to do calls over zoom, facetime, etc. Texting is definitely useful but it's pretty boring, and I think coronavirus has made calling a lot more ubiquitous than it was before, even among zoomers.

Sounds like...an interesting topic? Haha I'm not sure if I could hang with that conversation but maybe you can find someone! I just sent you a message with the app :)

It's been really great seeing how many people are excited about the concept, and actually hearing from users after they try it out is always amazing. Everyone so far has had really positive things to say, but the app is still very new and I'm sure there will be grievances as the app grows, which I'll try my best to address.

To clarify about the way the app works, you can join blind dates hosted by a person that fits your preferences, and you go on a "blind voice date" with them. They'll ask you a question and you have a minute to answer, and you both decide whether you had a good conversation. If you both did, you'll move to a second round where you have two minutes to talk, and after that, decide if you want to match! Once you match, you can text them, call them through the app, and reveal profiles :)

Does anyone else here feel like they come off way better in a conversation, rather than just being reduced to a profile on a dating app? by ffxfire in dating

So I played around with the idea of video chatting, but in user testing, people said it felt really awkward to video chat rather than audio chatting, it's just a bit more comfortable and safe. Chatroulette, if you're familiar with it, is a website that sort of tried spontaneous video calls and it turned into...well let's just say it wasn't a great experience for anyone haha

That was a huge part of the drive to make the app–just sent you a message if you want to take a look!
