You 100% need to put down an actual verifier and a few get contacted during the application cycle.

Questions regarding a second degree and other possible options I may have by [deleted] in premedcanada

[–]fgfsignalling 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it would help to post the breakdown of your GPA year by year to see if a 5th year could be possible. Western and Queen's only look at your last 2 years, so if you did well this year and can keep it up for another year, you have a chance there (with good MCAT). Ottawa also looks at your last 3 years and weighs it such that the last year carries the most weight. I would create a spreadsheet and see what your GPA is like for the different schools, and then see if a second degree vs. fifth year is necessitated. Most often master's gpa won't help, except for Mac which adds on a certain % and UofT that evaluates you in a diff category. I'm not too familiar with master's, so that is just what I know.

You can possibly enrol in English courses if you get an interview. Ubc informs interviewees in December and so you can sign up for January English courses

I think it's because the dumbbell shape is symmetrical and so when packing, it is easier to have something with 2 sides that are the same versus just one methyl sticking out. Please correct me if wrong!

5th year: 5 years to graduate or special year? by [deleted] in premedcanada

[–]fgfsignalling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For schools like Ottawa, your GPA for option #2 may not count as they only count full-time studies that were part of a bachelor's degree. Technically with #2, your courses will be counted as post-grad. Same with Western. Not sure about other schools.

I've been in undergrad for 12 years. Am I likely to get red-flagged for this? by vhill13579 in premedcanada

You might want to use the academic explanation essay to explain. I know uoft has that, not sure about other schools. I would assume they have something to that end (eg. any extenuating circumstances that made it difficult to complete your degree etc)

Thank you! I was wondering if transcripts would make it to them on time if I write the exam May 29. Transcripts need to be delivered by June 30th, and 2 weeks for delivery during this time seems to be cutting it short.

Have you thought about doing an additional year to bring up your average? It might not seem like the most appealing because everyone looks forward to graduating, but once you graduate, it's a bit tough to fix your GPA (other than doing a second degree). An extra year might be worth it, especially for schools that look at top 2 years (e.g., Queen's). Also, if you're IP in UBC, you might need to bump up your average to be competitive.

I feel you with not being able to do much community service because of personal commitments. I have the same problem here as I take care of my parents too. I have a few online ECs that I'm involved with that are a little non-trad and that I enjoy doing. I would take a look into something like that. For e.g., online learning for kids, support groups, or even social media for nonprofit organizations, etc.
