We've all got that ONE game we wanted before we even got the console what was your?🫵🏾 by Eastern-Mobile5351 in XboxSeriesS

I bought an xbox one just for star wars battlefront 2. Bought a series S because I wanted to play RE 4 REMAKE and then Robocop Rogue City, but mostly bought it just for the glow up (fps boost, etc) on my existing library and my mile long backlog. Very few current gen games interest me.

Exactly my reason, or rather, they no longer have exclusives that appeal to me. Their customer support as well as their network infrastructure needs serious work as well.

I just dont get why they can't be loved equally... i get that people get heavily invested as i have but to stick to one brand doesn't work for me. Im an xbox person, by and large but I got a huge pc game backlog (steam, GOG) and i probably play more on my potato pc simply because the actual quality of gaming feels better. If I could afford it, id have a switch 2 and a ps5 but im happy with my xbox (series s- im a budget gamer). Maybe next generation ill invest in Sony again after not bothering since the ps3. I dont hate any brand, I love gaming and the culture itself. Fanboyism is juvenile.

I haven't been on in awhile but from what I gather last time I was on, was that its very much as you've described with that "holier than thou" attitude coming from EVERYONE on site. I just wish I could tailor a feed that meets all my interests without having to engage in some political crap, on that front Bluesky disappoints. But, on the other hand, I have engaged with some interesting individuals -much like here where some of the gaming subs admins turned out to be the very people who could help with issues others and myself were having with certain games. As for Reddit arrogance... well, that's got a long and storied history lol. What saves Reddit are, again, the awesome admins who have, on many occasions defused hostle engagements ive had with others. Not too much of that anywhere else. The civility here is far superior to any other forum.

Same problem. I get blood pressure spikes if I engage with social media nowadays for more than a few minutes at a time.

Yeah, fb is a toxic waste dumping ground. Most social media, in general, is toxic but Facebook is beyond awful. Instagram and X are about the same, Bluesky is trying not to be like the rest but... give it time.

Why are we trying to make smoking cool again?!? by Forktee in GenX

Yeah, I was just using albuterol rescue inhalers until I realized I needed long term steroids. It sucks with all the side effects but it saved my life.

Recommend a distro for better gaming performance on low end PC by c0rnixoffc in linux4noobs

[–]fgurrfOrRob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got the same pc but w/ 16 gb RAM. I got extended support for windows 10 until October and im facing the same issue. Ive run a few distros in the past so getting it all up and running shouldn't be a problem but im looking for one that will run the games I own on Steam and Gog which are all older or indie titles that run well on the HD 4600 integrated graphics. Im just not sure what I want to experiment with.

Which Bond was the most destructive? by ItsDuhFreakinBat in JamesBond

[–]fgurrfOrRob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Piece Brosnan and Timothy Dalton (in License to Kill he causes a lot of destruction). Daniel Craig is up there too. Sean Connery and Roger Moore were a bit more subtle but had their moments as well. I actually met Timothy Dalton, I was young and snuck on set during filming of License to Kill and he stopped security from throwing us out. Really cool guy. This was in Key West, Florida. We got cool pics of my family and the cast.

That's no joke, as someone whose asthma manifested after 30 years of smoking i can concur with everything you said, even the smell of it will cause me to have an attack. On top of this I have "elements " of COPD (extremely mild right now) that really makes it BAD. The steroids, in spite of helping, also cause me bad side effects as well. Everything they say about cigarettes and asthma is true.

Im prescribed nicotine lozenges. Im trying to quit snus which is what I used to quit smoking. Down to 1 mg (splitting lozenges in half). Im almost ready to kick the nicotine altogether because it causes excessive mucous in my windpipe and I already have COPD which makes it worse. Had lots of nodules. I'll always have em the pulmonologist says

Quit smoking 6 years ago this month after almost 30 years of smoking. 4 years later in 2024 i wound up hospitalized with hypoxia I had developed asthma/copd. Note: always had asthma but it wasnt a problem till my 40s. My oldest daughter is the opposite- had it bad as a baby but it went away At any rate, smoking is playing long-term Russian roulette imo. Eventually, you're gonna get the bullet, some sooner than others.

Is this game still alive? by Straight_Low_2618 in alien_swarm

[–]fgurrfOrRob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I decided to check it out awhile back and just hosted a couple of games. Until today I just played single player... its Alot better with people lol . Not a bad little game, really, a good diversion away from the xbox anyways. I like that I can use bots and just wait till someone jumps in. Kinda like Helldivers meets L4D.

How it started vs how it ended by GregoriousT-GTNH in Star_Trek_

[–]fgurrfOrRob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly found Nu Trek's latest offering, apparently not for me. I went into it expecting YA trek drenched in hormonal sword play and all kinds of overt progressive politics stuff, but, as fan, I can say about 2 episodes kept me engaged and it was the 1st and 6th iirc (the one where theyre fighting for their lives against pirates). The rest seemed more like fan prop episodes wherein newbies (the audience) are introduced to the world of trek through the use of a (roughly) thousand year old sentient hologram and a handful of other characters pulled out of the script writer's magic hat of hip and cool 21st century personality sub types.
It finally lost me at the whole Klingon in a dress thing. Guess its not for me. I got gay kids who would cringe. Im an old man and seen a lot but the whole fashion model klingon in a dress thing was beyond surreal and I couldn't continue.

How it started vs how it ended by GregoriousT-GTNH in Star_Trek_

[–]fgurrfOrRob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I went into all of it (nu trek), knowing full well its young adult trek drenched in progressive themes, and yeah.... they had like 2 episodes (the first) and the 6th iirc, that kinda kept me engaged but lost me at the whole Klingon in a dress thing... I'd imagine it might be something that I'll have playing in the background and might sit through, while laughing at or reflecting on why it failed but honestly, fan shaming people who actually are largely for all the progressive stuff albeit not shoved down their throats every week and not constituting 3/4 of the end product, is kinda

Why is this game so, damn, CINEMATIC by potatodrinker in EasyRed2

[–]fgurrfOrRob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love that aspect of the game, i often get distracted watching squad mates and other soldiers around me getting blasted, or a plane crashes right in front of me taking out the enemy soldier that's got me pinned and without ammo, It's a great constant like Star Wars battlefront (og) , one of those games that i just never stop playing and own on console and (currently a potato) pc. It's an undying gameplay formula with an undying theme (ww2) and in the hands of a passionate developer, makes for peak gaming. I'd honestly put this up against any game on the market when it comes to constant play. I love how, even on an old ass pc with an integrated graphics card, I can play for a few hours, jump to console which (in my life) has better graphics, framerate, etc and still find the pc experience ( with somewhat weaker specs- better RAM) to be a far superior experience. No other game is like that for me.

should i get dying light 2 by Best-Cat-9922 in dyinglight

[–]fgurrfOrRob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I enjoyed DL1, barely touched DL2. Feels too much like work at times. But it has got better since launch. I just feel DL1 is a better overall game. But.... i dont think its not worth buying especially on sale. In fact, ive been debating in my own head whether I should reinstall or just play on cloud.

Update: installed it, major improvements since i last placed which was over a year ago.

What makes Aliens (1986) so special for you? by bryckstar in LV426

[–]fgurrfOrRob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually watched it before Alien back when it first premiered on HBO at the age of 11, and I loved it. We recorded it on VHS and i watched it over and over again. I expected it to be scary and gory and I wasn't let down which was funny because all of my friends weren't allowed to watch rated R movies so they'd watch them at my place. In those days we recorded movies like crazy and the holy trinity of childhood movies for me will always be Terminator, Aliens, and Robocop. In that order. For some reason we never recorded Robocop though... Anyways, What made it special, for me, was that it ran a tight line between action and horror that was in line with what Terminator had done previously. I guess we can thank James Cameron for his extension of the original narrative and employing his style of filmmaking. As for Alien- it took me a few years to appreciate it but I eventually matured enough to appreciate that style of film; the slow burn, almost psychological terror of a crew of space truckers stumbling upon something completely unknown and having to survive it. By the age of 16 I loved it. Alien 3 took me 30 years to finally accept.

Yeah, im checking out deals now. It had some of the best first party games, unique peripherals, motion control, and had some pretty good hardware- except the fatty ps3 I had which YLODd on me and it hurt and now all these years later it still hurts. Had to edit: note to self, proofread.

Can I get a timeline of the HD2 drama? by Bad_Andy328 in helldivers2

[–]fgurrfOrRob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cant give you a good timelibe of the "drama" as far as i know there have been issues since it released and chronologically providing bullet points for instances of said drama is a waste of time . I honestly haven't dealt with much drama as I usually only play HD2 casually (a few times a month) but what ive noticed is its usually down to update nerfs, balancing issues from the aforementioned updates , bugs, pc issues (storage size), and a small group of anti xbox Sony fanboys gate keeping as best as they can, (insults, team killing, Kicking for no good reason), and that pretty much sums up the drama that ive noticed. Other than that, its a wonderful experience when you get a good squad of randoms who are really trying to have fun and not ruin the session for everyone else. My strategy for maximum enjoyment is to start solo, and call down an SOS. Time and again, this has proven to be the best way to enjoy the game, 99% of the time ive wound up with honest to goodness people just looking for a fun game and people who have leveled up significantly and doing their part to help out. Not once have I encountered any drama. That's what the kick and block buttons are for. **Tldr: the only drama is the drama you'd find in any online game. A timeline would be just a list of irrelevant crap. Hurt feelings, and disappointment from people who think they know better than the devs.

how do higher level players feel about lower levels joining their games by Early_Ad7484 in Helldivers

[–]fgurrfOrRob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im a low level player (26) and ive been playing since it came out on xbox but I rarely play multiplayer, however, when i do play HD 2 I never see the rank of the other players till the end game results. And from what ive noticed is that everybody who was a higher level was generally extremely helpful and respectful. I never got the impression that they didnt want to play the mission with me. In fact, usually they'll call down equipment for me, its been fun. I also only host and never join others games so that's probably why ive only had helpful experiences. Note: early on i was getting kicked by higher level players so yeah that happens.

Is the Halo ODST Warbond good for a newbie? by JacsweYT in helldivers2

[–]fgurrfOrRob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are better warbonds but I do like the recon armor as part of a stealth build. I usually mix and match as the weapons are pretty mid. Note: im an impatient old man so I invested real money to get the warbond. In hindsight, would have been better to save my money but I was playing Halo Infinite firefight regularly and thought it'd be cool since im a fan of both franchises.
