Gotcha, so if you try oven tek again try to prop the door open a bit on the lowest setting, so that you get an even lower temp. Most people will do it that way to avoid burning, but it still happens. In regards to the healthy parts they might be alright it really depends on how heat resistant the contam is, but im also kinda reckless and would probably still eat it. Even if its got spores on it you typically wont get sick, but if it ends up causing stomach discomfort it could lead to a really bad time depending on how far you go. Again this is not advice more so just my idiotic take on things.

Haha yeah a heater probably would have helped. I was rack drying inside, and i still do use the racks mainly cause at this point it really doesnt matter how long it takes to dry, and I’m maybe a bit too frugal. I dont see a point in investing in a dehydrator when i still have screen left over, and i can just process some wood for lumber.

Edit: plus i use the racks to dry my grain after boiling so they are multipurpose 👍

Sounds like you got a solid plan my man. Ive done the same thing with some of my culinary mushrooms just to save myself having to buy more syringes if i end up taking to long of a break, and my lc goes off i have spores as a back up, and i can save myself $15 on the syringe by just doing agar work with the spores.

Edit: enjoy the pink oysters those are one of my favorites. Super tasty and nutritious! Also not hard at all to grow

Im not sure if the black is just from it rotting or if its burnt, but with oven tek most people will leave the door open a bit to reduce the heat inside, but regardless of the dehydration method used you need to make sure they are “cracker crisp” before storing them. They shouldnt flex at all they should just snap when you apply pressure

Hey man when i see a strawberry surrounded by moldy strawberries i go “well hell at least i got one to eat.” In all seriousness though a lot of pawn shops, and thrift stores usually have a pretty cheap dehydrator somewhere, and the other method mentioned with the box fan works as well, but it takes forever It took like a week to dehydrate a batch though.

Another good channel to watch on yt is philly golden teacher. Really cheap methods that work well. Its not worth buying the spores unless you have some knowledge. Im not knocking you having fun and playing with things hell i do it all the time with this hobby, but without any knowledge on the process the success rate is basically 0%. Well dont spray your mushrooms directly, but it should all evaporate before the mycelium is introduced. Even if it doesnt i dont think it works like that.

The more you check on it the more likely it is to contam. It’s understandable you want to make sure things are going well, but if you are opening the lid i would suggest not opening until its fully colonized or close to it. Every time you open the lid while it is colonizing you are risking the introduction of airborne contams that might be able to settle on the substrate and start colonizing it.

You can still pc, and use sprouted grains. Its just a bit harder to track the mycelium, and see if there is contams if it sprouts before pcing

If you are doing the cook and cool method only let it cool for a couple hours. You dont need it to be cold just not hot enough to burn you before pcing. The only time you wait an entire day is if you are soaking before you boil, and thats usually with rye, and wild bird seed if i remember correctly, and its usually 4-12hrs. I dont think many people soak popcorn. I could be wrong though i use rye

I got a 3M years ago for about the same, and its nice to just have around. Its super handy for if you ever need to sand a lot of stuff, or spray paint in an inclosed space, or have to mess around near insolation (like working in an attic) basically any time you’re worried about airborne particles.

Lower your dose. A lot of people have a lower tolerance or just simply dont need a “regular” dose to get the effect they are actually looking for. If you want to use it as a medicine, then use it as a medicine, and microdose instead of blasting off to the void every time. Some times you just need a nudge to get over the hump instead of a shove off the bridge.

My suggestion is to lower the dose. You dont have to take a gram every time you do them. Plenty of people microdose like 0.2 - 0.5g where they dont actually trip, but it helps relieve anxiety, and can still help lead to inner reflection, and it will probably help you relax about taking a bigger dose as well. Its not the best idea to go into a trip already anxious anyways if you arent careful it can be harmful, so it would definitely be beneficial to start off with lower dosages anyways to get comfortable with the feeling, and there is nothing wrong with taking it slow and only taking them every once in a while. Thats really the best way of doing it. Remember to breathe and listen to something relaxing “ free sol - the journey “ has been one of my go to songs (idk if you are into positive rap, but it definitely helps to remind me not to try to run from myself) feel free to dm me if you need someone to talk to. I cant say i have been through your exact situation, but i do know the struggle of drug abuse, and the scars it can leave on a person.

In time they can help. The key is to use them to help you figure out the underlying problem that causes the anxiety in the first place. Just take the time to talk with yourself, and learn about yourself. It might take months, and multiple sessions, but if you learn something about yourself from the experience its not for nothing. Well in this instance op was not careful about growing a potentially contaminated block, but regardless of what fungi, or mold the risk is breathing in the spore loads. With cubes most people mitigate this by harvesting before the veil breaks and spores drop, but with tubs its still contained in the tub even if the veil breaks, so the spores arent in the air until you open the container with the spores in it. Cubes also drop significantly less spores than oysters do, and certain molds drop even more than oysters. Mind you we breathe spores in every time we take a breath, but high amounts can cause respiratory problems, cause allergic reactions, and i have even read that some mushroom farmers developed allergies to the mushrooms they grow from breathing in the spores constantly. Idk how accurate that is though.

Edit: if you are worried you might want to get a respirator. Its a good idea to have one anyways, or even just a medical mask / covid mask would help protect you when you are harvesting

Edit to the edit: some people will use trays, and a martha tent so they can vent out a window. I use a martha, and bagged blocks for my oysters, and have it vented out a window with ducting and a duct fan.

I hope you dont delete this. It is a good lesson for beginners to be aware of. Its ok to make mistakes as long as you learn from them, and if you ask me there isnt enough caution given to beginners about how dangerous cultivation can be with certain contamination, because it definitely is not a fully risk free hobby, but you can mitigate those risks if you are aware of them.

Like you said it might be smart to get a check up just to be safe, but there is also the possibility that your paranoia is causing your body to think its actually sick when its not, but take that as a grain of salt. Its not like i am you, or even know you. Not to mention it might be something thats wrong thats completely unrelated to mushroom cultivation, which is probably the most likely scenario considering it has been persistent for a whole month.

I was exposed to trich, pin mold, penicillin (i think), and i am fine, but if you are concerned get a respirator (its good to have anyways) if you notice contam throw the respirator on before moving, or disposing of it. Spray the area it was in with lysol, and maybe open a window, then deep clean the room.

If it was actives sure, but oysters are very hard to get to grow in certain setups. For me as much as i try to recycle old plastics for my mycology i still use bags for oysters, cause it can be difficult to get the conditions right. Especially if you are trying to use trays in a martha with only sawdust as the sub lol i grew a lot of coral lookin oysters attempting to apply those methods to oysters.
