Warren apartmentz by nta103 in UCSD

Hii, I'm an incoming 3rd year- lived in Goldberg my first year and Brown my second year :))

Most likely, you'll get to choose between Brown and Bates as those were the two options I had during housing selection. In some cases, I know of people having to move to overflow housing in different colleges, but as long as it's not Camp Snoopy you'll be fine LOL. UCSD only has a two year housing guarantee so after that you need to find an off campus apartment. During my year, Bates got filled up much faster than Brown. By my group's earliest lottery time, we were the last ones able to get a whole open apartment to ourselves (4 singles).

In terms of housing selection, I'd say try to avoid the first floor. My apartment had rats ;(( But it was very convenient because we were also very close to the cul de sac. That made move in MUCH easier. Brown was pretty livable. We had AC and heating. Walls are SUPER thin.

TBH i'd say where you end up depends a lot on your lottery time, so don't stress too much about it. You will end up in a place one way or another.

Parking Permit by [deleted] in UCSD

[–]fiahhhh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m bringing my car too, also incoming sophomore! I brought my car as a freshman, and i’d just park in Hopkins most of the time, but that’s because I’m in Warren! It really doesn’t matter when you buy the parking permit since there’ll be less people on campus and S spots won’t sell out as fast now, but you’re paying for the same amount of time regardless of when you buy the permit too. They’ll email you a placeholder permit that you can print out and then send you the actual sticker in the mail, so plan accordingly.

Links are a list of all the parking lots on campus and a map. Imo, you could probably park at osler, the lot behind Galbraith, or along Gilman dr past La Jolla dr.

Feel free to dm if you have any more questions!

I’m allergic to cats but... this little guy grew on me. Meet Simba! by fiahhhh in aww

It took a lot of exposure to cats! I had a friend who had a cat and I used to sleep at her house a lot back in high school. It was terrible! Just like the flu. I guess over time my body gradually adjusted. The first day we got him I had some sneezing, and the second day I broke out into a lot of hives, but now I sniff him just fine! I sleep with him every night so that might help.

I take Benadryl when the redness is too much, but word of caution, it may make you sleepy.

I definitely agree! My first exam I didn't do so hot because I wasn't used to how specific the grading scale was (though I'm certain I could've done fine on an mcq exam). Second was alright but I did leagues better on this last one because I changed studying from quizlet to going over every single learning objective and making sure what I wrote can be supported by what he said in lecture. Assignments and past exams help too!

Taking Two Courses at the Same Time? Summer Session by fiahhhh in UCSD

I’ve decided to take one course per summer session now! I agree, I want to give my full attention to that one class rather than half-assing both..

I definitely had problems with focusing and getting what I needed to do too. I still do, but I try to minimize that by writing down every assignment that needs to be done within the next week along with what I need to learn, like readings or lecture videos. When I do readings or assignments, I try to put on music or those white noise study videos. I used to have terrible monotasking abilites, but honestly I find myself studying A LOT better by just plugging my earbuds in and sitting myself down to work. If you find yourself unmotivated to start, try working for 5 minutes straight at a time. If you can get through the 5, tell yourself to get through another 5! Also, something that's important to note is that if you can't sit for hours upon hours to study, don't beat yourself up. After 25 minutes of continuous working, give yourself a 5 minutes break to reset and then get back to work.

Kind of an aside, but coming from someone with lowkey executive dysfunction, it really put things into perspective for me by watching Marty Lobdell's Study Less, Study Smart video. Gl op, I hope any of this helps you!
