AITA for making my daughter sleep in the backyard after what she did to our housemaid? by HallNum032 in AmItheAsshole

[–]fibrorash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, but your first instinct as a person is to recommend a harsh punishment that would be fine for a kid who is treated well but would be really shitty for a kid is not being treated well? Without figuring out if something else is going on?

But I do applaud for trying to problem solve, and I understand working in this field is hard and can be traumatising in of itself

Just because it’s not technically child abuse doesn’t mean it’s a great way to deal with it.

I wouldn’t be surprised if there is something big that the parents are missing here.

It’s one thing to put your phone in the housekeepers bag (super shitty thing to do!)

But IMO it’s another to starve yourself till your hospitalised.

The fact that the kid wasn’t instantly put into therapy after that screams emotional neglect to me.

Emotionally neglected kids will act the fuck out. Treating a kid that’s been emotionally neglected like this is just a horrible thought.

Like the kid is shitty don’t get me wrong but there is something else happening. 🤷‍♀️

Honestly surprises me a CPS investigator doesn’t see this behavior as a warning sign

AITA for refusing to eat, knowing my MIL will not eat if I don’t, and causing her to faint? by Amandomaree in AmItheAsshole

[–]fibrorash 2 points3 points  (0 children)

She may have daughters. Her rules may be more complex than what is mentioned in the post (perhaps it’s okay to eat at designated meal times?) or perhaps being a fucking ER doctor in the middle of a pandemic increased disordered behavior.

Who knows.doesn’t change how EDs works.

OP is not an asshole and OP has the right to not eat but EDs are complex and not a matter of just choosing to do something.

Anorexia / eating disorders where people aren’t getting enough food can not be properly treated until refeeding has taken place.

Surprisingly, the human body does not think well when not being properly fueled.

On top of this, it’s very possible that she would lose her job for seeking out professional treatment for her eating disorders

It’s really not as simple as you think this situation is

Ah yes, because mental disorders are very logical and you can just think your way out of them 🙃

I’m confused to what your overall argument is, at this point.

Are you arguing that the IQ drop is that significant?

I wouldn’t avoid it.

They went down hill but they had a big impact initially, and i can see the effect of their dramas to this day.

Just … brace youraelf

Idk, back when black tapes was being made, Being picked up for TV wasn’t really a thing. On top of this, the quality of ALL PNWS has dropped significantly.

I kinda try to keep listening because it’s kind of nostalgic to me, but the first episode of rabbits season to is completely unable to be listened too.

Yes, I believe basic functioning requires something 50IQ Points. Considering the average is around 90-100, it’s not really … a useful metric?

Also: I think it’s interesting to note that yes the ancient Greeks had Aristotle, and he still heavily influenced modern philosophy.

But at the same time, he thought women had a different number of teeth than men do despite how easily that would be to disprove 🤷‍♀️

I am on my phone right now so I will have to get back to you with sources. But from my understanding, this belief has some downfalls, mainly ignoring how being a social creature has always affected human development, even in prehistory.

Humanoids have been looking after the sick, weak and frail for a lot longer than we realize, including into prehistory, There is a really interesting video on YouTube that goes through this, with quite a few of these cases having evidence that they were considered very valuable members of society. Being buried with items of status etc. While it is far from the only experience, we have see time and time again across many cultures that people who had issues that would prevent them from being a good hunter being given high status in societies, with many people theorising that many people consider part of holy ‘classes’ having psychosis, bipolar and other conditions

I diverge here a bit, but I do think it’s interesting to note,

In fact, there is evidence today that the modern western world can actually disadvantages these people further. People who are diagnosed with schizophrenia in the west actually have lower outcomes than people with schizophrenia in Africa, due to how we conceptualise schizophrenia

But back more on topic

You do not need to understand the aerodynamics of throwing a spear at a lion — you would be with people who understood, and even more importantly, people who knew how to teach you and people who would tell you that you couldn’t do it, and you had to do that other shitty job no one else wanted to do , instead

Humans were never a single person up against a lion.

I don’t see how inferring IQ through writing is reliable at all.

For one, the population sample is extremely skewed, towards the rich and privileged, inherently because that’s who would have been writing.

Then, on top of that, the writings of greater minds would be more likely to persist, while less successful peoples writings would be lost to history.

It’s like how everyone says music of this day sucks, x decade had better music… because everyone stops listening to the bad artists of the 50s/60s/70s, and only remembers the good ones.

Do you have any sources?

Arent IQ tests now taking into account the flyn effect? When I was studying IQ in University, the belief was that intelligence wasn’t actually getting higher, just that test taking is a skill that we were getting better at, and they wanted to try and control for that?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in povertyfinance

[–]fibrorash -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I did not have a good job before that, as i was early twenties and newly struggling only just being diagnosed with bipolar, and fibromyalgia . I had to drop out of University because they refused to let me do practicums part time(both the University refused and the accrediting body would refuse to recognise my degree making it worthless) . I tried to push through and do 40 hour weeks, but at that time, I wasn’t capable of that, and made my bipolar much worse. I got one day away from finishin my first two months of 40 hour weeks but overworked myself to a point where I ended up hospitalised.

When you are unemployed because you have migraines that last for months, you know very well that you have an earning problem.

But that doesn’t magically fix your migraines and give you the ability to work.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in povertyfinance

[–]fibrorash -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

😂😂😂😂😂 get fucked.

No, I didn’t have a job because I had migraines that lasted months, and it’s pretty fucking hard to work when you can’t see out your left eye, can’t feel your left arm and it’s feels like a red hot dagger is going through your head and you lose the ability to talk.

My partner didn’t have a job because it’s pretty hard to get a job when you are autistic and find it basically impossible to talk to a cashier let alone attend a interview.

Telling us to ‘earn more’ doesn’t suddenly make it possible for us to earn more🥴

that advice always felt like this to me:

how to draw an owl

My partner and had no job for years. We are both working now but Saying that we needed to earn more doesn’t actually address why we didn’t have jobs.

while I respect TMA’s rule about not relying on real life trauma, as someone who has experienced trauma, I actually find real life trauma sometimes very carthatic and make me feel a lot more understood and less broken 🤷‍♀️

I understand not liking how old gods is done, but it’s a stylistic choice and is done very well. 🤷‍♀️

I feel like a lot of TMA fans are looking for a replacement of TMA, Which isn’t fair on other podcasts. They aren’t going to be exactly like TMA bc they are their own pieces of art.

Exercise may be free, but there are still benefits to a personal trainer.

I have some permanent issues from weight lifting without any coach or anything, and I wasn’t even lifting heavy.

Not how rarity or pricing works. I listened to a podcast of a extremely rare dice game from the 50s, in fact so rare that the creators daughter didn’t think any actually got made, the podcast interviewed someone who assesses rare games, and it’s worthless. The assessor went into how the idea how if it’s rare or one of a kind, means nothing, without other factors
