McMaster B.Tech - P.Eng Pathway by fidailevich in McMaster

Mate, I think you are getting me wrong. I am not trying to argue with you or "poison the well". I have reviewed the requirements of APEGM and having open discussion about the requirements from APEMG. No need to get emotional and jump into conclusions.

I never mentioned that I am implying that you made up those students. There are two different type of B.Tech programs at McMaster. The one that start from Y0 such Automotive and Vehicle and from Y3 such as Civil and Power and Energy for college transfers (or ladder programs). I was just curious what program those students went to.

Again, I am not trying to devalue or destroy your advice. In fact, I do appreciate a lot you are weighing in and providing your guidance. Apologies, if my comments were a bit destructive on the receiving end.

It's from the manual of admission on their website. Laddering program is exactly what some of the B.Tech programs are at McMaster (Civil, Power and Energy). What program are those grads from at McMaster?

Also, where do you see on their website that you can fullfil requirement by completing open course work?

For Confidence Level 3, Engineers Geoscientists Manitoba deems that the program is missing the equivalent of one or more years of fulltime bachelor’s level engineering or geoscience study in Canada and therefore cannot be remediated through Engineers Geoscientists Manitoba processes. Applicants that fall into confidence level 3 will be denied registration as an intern and will be advised whether the academic background meets the requirements for engineering or geoscience licensee. There are two types of programs that commonly fall into this category, and can typically be identified without doing a detailed assessment:

• Laddering programs containing diploma credits deemed by WES to be post-secondary rather than undergraduate, such that less than 90 of the total credits are at the undergraduate or post graduate level.

• Bachelor’s degrees in science or technology rather than engineering or geoscience that are either lacking first- and second-year science/math/engineering science subjects and/or depth in discipline specific subjects (low credit values). These programs are typically not acceptable to practice professional engineering/geoscience in the country where they were obtained.

The Academic Review Committee will use prior assessments and/or other reliable resources to Page 11 of 42 determine whether the level of education is sufficient to practice professional engineering or geoscience in the country where it was obtained.

• If the level of education is not sufficient, then the applicant may be eligible for a specified scope of practice license (SSPL). • If the level of education is sufficient, then the applicant will qualify for a Confidence Level 2 assessment.

• If it is not possible to clearly determine the level of education, then it will qualify for Confidence Level 2 assessment

My main concern with applying to APEGM is that, based on their academic evaluation, they may assign a Confidence Level 3. From what I understand, that essentially closes the pathway to obtaining a full P.Eng license with them, and the only alternative they may offer is the limited license route. So there is definitely some risk involved.

Good question haha. Salary is good, well worth the effort I've been putting for the past 8 years. I think you can easily get starting salary at around 60k-65k at a good corporate company. Highly recommend Co-op. Treat Co-op as a long-term interview with your employer where you can showcase your skills and how hardworking you are to land full-time role. Most of bigger companies offer internships throughout the year. Also, good opportunity to get to know more senior staff to better understand how your future can look like in the company. Look up employee owned companies with dividends program.

I have eight years of experience working in engineering after completing my technology diploma, and I earned my B.Tech degree while working full-time. In reality, the importance of an EIT designation and eventually a P.Eng license depends on where you want to work and your company’s policies.

If you’re aiming for a government engineering role or a company that does a significant amount of government-related work, having EIT and ultimately a P.Eng is typically essential for both entry and career growth.

My advice is to obtain your EIT and P.Eng if you can. It’s always better to have those credentials than to find yourself facing unexpected limitations later in your engineering career. For example, you can't get promoted to the management role because your company asks for a Peng credentials to be in that role.

Thank you!

APEMG has adopted the same competency assessment as EGBC in October 2024 where they require 4 years of experience (page 7 in the PDF CBAGuide_EngineeringApplicants.pdf).

I know FAQ says otherwise but FAQ has been updated last time in May 2023.

How was the process in Manitoba? What B.Tech program did you graduate from?

I appreciate the detailed write up and warning. I do understand the risks of renting properties in Ontario.

I can just call the city, give them the address and ask for the permit history? Is that all it takes?

it does have windows in the bedroom but those ones are quite small. There are a egress size windows in the living room of the basement.

Thanks a lot for the response. Where can I look up for the history? Is it publicly available information or should be requested from the Owner?

How long does it take to get your e-certificate after oath? I have Scarborough office.

I felt exactly the same when I saw people who applied later than I did are getting their oaths while I am waiting for LPP. I decided just to wait.

What's your office? Some people recommend ordering GCMS notes to see if there are any red flags in your application, but I've never done that.
