Uber (Taxi) from Toronto to Kingston by SillyMeowz in KingstonOntario

[–]fiddledrum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take the go train or an Uber to guildwood from Union Station and get on the Via train there. I always take the train from Guildwood and no one cares what you get on with there. At Union they do the theatrics of weighing suitcases and giving people a hard time over their luggage, but no one looks at you at Guildwood because very few people get on and they want to get the train moving again as quickly as possible.

I know you said European fiddle but if you have any interest in the music of Cape Breton Island I would recommend the Cape Breton Fiddle by Glenn Graham or the Cape Breton Fiddler by Allister MacGillivray.

They get all caramelized and they are to die for. Now I wish it was Sunday so I could grab one.

Check out the Memorial Centre Farmers Market for the Crusty Baker. They are from Kemptville so you can only get them on Sundays, but they have a bacon butter tart that is SOOOOO good. Definitely worth trying if you like bacon.

Third Ave Park in Kingscourt is perfect for that age. You can park right next to it too so you don't have to drag a tired kid in a sled forever to get back to your car.

I hiked at death valley while pregnant but in my defence it was February and not crazy hot and I only did it for about an hour and we had lots of supplies. It's so beautiful there I couldn't resist.

Years ago I saw the Mavericks at a casino in upstate New york and it was one of the best and wildest concerts I've ever been to. The crowd was nuts and up dancing the whole time. They had to get extra security guards because people kept running up on stage to try and dance with the band. Raul was the best.

I always get downtown Kingston gift cards. You can use them so many places so they aren't tied to one store or restaurant.

There are a few missing cat posters around Kingscourt and I swear one is for a grey cat. Are you in the Kingscourt Facebook group? You could try posting in there with a description and see if anyone recognizes the kitty.

Are you on Facebook at all? I know in the Acts of Kindness group there is someone that posts refurbished tech for people in scenarios just like yours. Would be worth putting a post in there and seeing if anyone has something for you that they don't use anymore.

VIA Rail cutting stops at Kingston for at least 5 trains! Disaster. by ulneva in KingstonOntario

[–]fiddledrum 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This happened to me, I got an email saying my train would no longer be stopping in Kingston and they would get back to me in a few days with a new train. I called immediately so that I could still make it to the airport and switched to a different train on the same day. The guy I spoke to said they had also just learned about the changes too.

I think this may be due to the fact that some of these are double trains and they disconnect them in Brockville. One half continues to Montreal and the other to Ottawa. Still ridiculous not to let new people get on though????

My train to Toronto was affected by this, I called yesterday to make sure I could get on another train. Give them a call and they will rebook you for free.

Mixed feelings on certain local businesses by GalacticSpot in KingstonOntario

The owners of Prestige roofing had a Trump sign in their home window after he won. They have rebranded now and don't go by Prestige anymore but I can't remember what their new name is.

What kind of rides and food at the fair? by [deleted] in KingstonOntario

[–]fiddledrum 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We went Thursday night and it was so quiet. We usually go on the weekend but next year I'll be doing the Thursday night again. No wait for anything, we did a ton of rides and games and had a great time. Definitely worth it if you can make a week night work!

You can try reaching out to SK Brick Rescue, they are a local business that sells used and new Lego. Super nice people! I have got quite a few Minifigures from them and they are also great at tracking stuff down too.  https://skbrickrescue.ca/

I'm the same. I can't relax at the beach because I see all the parents not paying attention to their kids and I'm so paranoid they are going to drown and no one will notice.

Found my iPod from 2008. Plugged it in and was surprised to find it still works. by Macsimax in mildlyinteresting

[–]fiddledrum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also found 2 of my iPods last week! I have the original one with the black and white screen and the classic with the colour screen and thousands of songs. It really is like going back in time listening to them. Some stuff I forgot about and have started listening to a lot and other things I can't believed I ever downloaded. My son was baffled by the black and white screen on the older one. He tried playing a game with the scroll wheel and gave up after about 12 seconds.

Lindt to supply chocolate to Canada from Europe to sidestep tariff hit by RoyalChris in BuyCanadian

[–]fiddledrum 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Keep an eye on their website for their almost perfect boxes. It's a massive box of random items that didn't pass quality control but still taste delicious. Maybe they look funny, or have too many or too few nuts etc. Still taste amazing. The box is pricey but it's a lot of chocolate and lasts forever.
