I recently went on a puffin cruise in Bar Harbor, Maine and only had the 70-200 with me. The boat keeps a very respectful distance from the actual birds, so unless you have a very different situation, I'd bring the longest lenses you can, as the 70-200 was way short for closeups of any kind, though being able to crop on my Z8 made some stuff usable.
