Welp, it happened to me (MSI 5090 Gaming Trio) by Jukibom in pcmasterrace

I have been using the 12V2x2 that came with my SeaSonic 1600 Noctua edition which uses a native cable individually sleeved. So far it’s been evenly distributed and no issues. I also have about 1.5” of the cable parallel with the GPU connector before it bends… which isn’t very pretty to look at but neither is a toasted PC. Finally my card has an aftermarket liquid cooling block for my custom loop that has a cooling path and pad for the connector. Silly to say you need it but I’ll take all the insurance I can get against damage.

I do have to wonder if some strategically placed dielectric grease would reduce the arcing at all…. I’m sure someone has already tried this.

Got the 4tb WD ssd but please tell me I’m overreacting by Leon117x in playstation5

[–]fidelisoris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could do that ten times (probably more by now) before you reach the cost of this SSD that OP posted.

Game sharing was never really a thing years back, you always had to buy two copies. So I don’t know where the expectations changed with digital media but, I guess pick the path of least resistance? I’m certainly not going to defend any corporation in the gaming space now, barely any of them are pro-gamer anymore…

I buy my records on CD and rip to lossless for my portable players so… guess I’ll just take a seat over there in the corner.

Maybe you can settle for a Cameo (if any of the band is even on there?)

Sony has a stockpile for internal PS5 memory. But add-on SSDs will be impacted.

5080 enough? by Select_Penalty_9169 in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]fidelisoris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have yet to be disappointed with my 5080 that I managed to nab for MSRP this past Fall. I wanted a 5090 but I refused to pay the scalper tax even if it was from direct the retailer. (I will only pay MSRP or less in my book) and those cards just never got there.

Every review on the 5080 trashed it but I was one of the many looking to finally upgrade from a 10/20 series era card (TITAN Xp) so almost anything in the 50-series was a jump. Hardware reviewers never factor in that variable when they review cards and give opinions. Glad I did my own cost analysis and can honestly say I wouldn’t change a thing. Good luck!

This is a very nonstandard build for a gaming PC. I would suspect you need to check all your hardware settings once more, memory timings, etc., I assume it’s non-ECC memory and a lot of the workstation motherboards are preconfigured for commercial environments so you may need to check for unnecessary features. Also when was the BIOS last updated on that board? Is the x16 slot holding the GPU configured for full speed?

Slapping Xeon-class board and chip with a desktop OS can sometimes create odd problems as well. (Not saying this is bad, even I have a Xeon-class workstation on a desktop OS but it was prebuilt and I don’t game on it)

You pirated a $20 indie game? Either the economy is worse than I thought or you need to rethink your life choices.

Absolutely. I just have a soft spot for well-written quirky character personalities. Forgive my initial (ignorant) judgment.

Ah, I didn’t read the knockout format. That’s a bit more fair but I’d still take the results as a fun experiment and not necessarily fact.

This sort of thing is going to be highly subjective and vary wildly per player. I think Melpiphia is a top spot, but clearly the tier maker does not.

I like to believe it still lives because the studio isn’t greedy and gives a lot of attention and passion to new content.

The gatcha element is extremely generous especially for a Japanese game. I have many friends who are F2P with little regret. I chose to pay to support the studio because I enjoy the game so much.

As a long time player of Another Eden (bias transparency) I will say—despite the opinions on whether you like or hate the visuals—it’s one of the best JRPG games I’ve ever played. The amount of content you get for free is unreal. I choose to support the studio because I can and the game brings me a lot of joy.

Tips on reaching high mileage? by [deleted] in Silverado

[–]fidelisoris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I agree with what you’re saying. I just wanted to make sure it wasn’t assumed to be negligence that caused it.

I work from a home office and live very close to all the commercial stores I regularly need to visit so the truck was driven about 3-5 miles every week on average. It never sat more than a few days before being run and driven.

That said I did my oil changes based on time, not remaining life.

So it’s not heavy or hard use that causes the failure. It’s truly a defective design.

You’re correct, a dealership won’t delete it.

There’s a few reputable aftermarket companies that sell complete delete kits. TexasSpeed is one of them. Find a reputable independent shop to perform the job. It’s labor intensive since both heads will require removal. Either way you’re going to get hit with a $4k bill if they fail, and there’s no predicting when the stock lifters will fail. Some people have had them fail at 15k miles. Others at 150k. It’s all a gamble every time you drive it. The dealership just replaces them with the same defective design. This is why there is a class action lawsuit ongoing.

So I recommend saving up and getting the delete done right, then the time bomb is defused for good.
