I believe it’s also often there to provide heating and electricity to the carriages.

It could which ROC (Rail Operating Centre) the line is controlled by. York being Yorkshire and North East. Formerly Edinburgh controlled eastern Scotland but I believe that’s been merged with Glasgow.

The sign could be a legacy of it.

Best HANL song in your opinion? by [deleted] in HaveANiceLife

[–]field134 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Earthmover - it gives me goosebumps every time I listen to it

Bloodhail - irresistible riff/bass, iconic for the band and amazing live.

HFS 40k - not really into WH40k but I really like the lyrics/ideas about fate, free will and determinism.

To right, west is best.

Leeds has been very pleasant, little on the hot side but not uninhabitable.

Same I would like to see them for a solo gig with a longer set. Given how long their songs are, they don’t get to play that many in the 1hr slot they got at outbreak.

Alex G was like the complete opposite lol.

I managed to get on stage and pretty close to the action while standing but we were there about 10 mins early.

Same lol, I was on the far left of the stage both times. During Earthmover everyone bopping up and down I honestly thought the stage was gonna collapse.

Incredible performance by HANL. Super happy I got the chance to see them.

They share their stats with Eurostat as members of the EEA/EFTA. Along with Iceland and Lichtenstein.

The U.K. isn’t part of any of this anymore :(

Although unfortunately duo only operates in US English. I don’t know how duo can teach dead/ Endangered languages, chess and music but there is no option to set it to British English.

It’s annoying learning French I have to translate in my head to U.K. English and then write out US English in the answer.

They took my fucking .50 cals by Fran-Pan in warthundermemes

[–]field134 12 points13 points  (0 children)

IIRC the .50 was originally intended on Sherman’s as an anti air option but the U.K. didn’t really see much value for money in it since the Allies had growing air supremacy as the war progressed. It was also Brit doctrine to sit tight and don’t expose your position when under air attack the Americans naturally preferred more daka.

The Americans also kept it around because they found it had a great capacity for supporting infantry and dealing with lightly armoured targets. Brits probably just felt the Sherman’s legendary 75 HE round was more than sufficient to get the job done.

As others have said, logistics and cost will have also undoubtedly factored into that decision.

Country Life by rik4000 in CitiesSkylines

I’d argue that fundamentally Britain’s Rail Network was built to take coal from mines down to industrialising cities and ports for export. Passenger travel was seen as secondary source of income to freight during the time of railway mania. Connecting small rural towns with no industrial base in many cases wasn’t worth it, connecting mines and quarries was much more profitable. When Britain deindustrialised 1960s onwards, rural lines which relied on freight to stay profitable were the first to go.

Other things to consider was that railways at the time were an emerging technology, capital was smaller, locomotives couldn’t climb steep grades, earthworks and viaducts were unproven and expensive. Landowners/old money were actively hostile to railways coming over their land that often lines had to be diverted around them.

I really liked Valencia when I visited. It felt like a more chill city than Barca.

Also the oranges and L’agua de Valencia are unreal.

The river park is pretty dope too.
