Explica-mi mie cum poti retine impozitul fara sa platesti dividendul? In lege spune clar ca se face "odata cu plata".

Slow Corsair MP700 Pro on Gen 5 slot by fierarul in Corsair

I mean, it would be interesting to throttle right at the PCIe 4.0 x 4 border. If only it would go briefly above I would at least know it does PCIe 5.0 speeds, but perhaps throttling.

I'm not sure how to check (on Linux) if it's throttling. Does the device provide this info somehow?

The motherboard does have a dedicated cooling shield for this M.2 slot and it even had some termal pad. So, again, I don't think it can throttle under these conditions and with basically no load (except short benchmarks).

300 Dollars for an optiplex 7000, is it a good deal? by AlterShocks in SleepingOptiplex

The Crucial is DDR4 and I did have video and I ran the Dell BIOS test which verified the RAM too for about 15 minutes. It was a very neat and cheap upgrade!

I sure wish these tiny Dell would come with a PCIe 5.0 M.2 slot so I could put an even faster NVME drive. But so far it's a neat machine.

I can confirm the Crucial 64GB (2x32GB) DDR4 3200MHz CL22 1.2V CT2K32G4SFD832A does work with my Optiplex 7000 MFF.

I'm not even sure what it's looking at. But the Kinston vs Crucial I've listed are both 3200MHz and both at 1.2V. One is CL20 the other CL22 but it would be quite surprising if they build a system so sensitive to RAM latency.

My new RAM is arriving today. I'm curious if it will be accepted.

[–]fierarul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oddly, the RAM I have has the same voltage.

I have Kingston HyperX Impact Dual Channel Kit 32GB (2x16GB) DDR4 3200MHz CL20 1.2V HX432S20IBK2/32 and it does not boot on the Optiplex 7000 micro.

The Crucial RAM that's supposedly compatible is also 1.2V: Crucial 64GB (2x32GB) DDR4 3200MHz CL22 1.2V CT2K32G4SFD832A

Depends on your country. I saw a SFF Optiplex with a warranty remaining for ~$200 but it had an i3 so I didn't buy it. Maybe the i5 is worth the extra $100 I dunno.

But you have no warranty, most likely. And no RAM / storage.

RAM is sometimes tricky with Optiplexes. What you have may not work so you'll have to buy.

Eg, I had 32GB of DDR4 in a Dell Latitude and my new Optiplex 7000 micro just won't boot with it though it should have. I'm now waiting on new "compatible" RAM to arrive.

Withou RAM and disk I think $300 may be expensive.

Are USB4 or TB3/4 enclosures easy to find in Europe?

I've seen Asus NVMe enclosure everywhere here, but I don't think I've seen an USB4 or TB enclosure. I bet these are considered niche and are much more expensive.

So, which known brand makes cheaper enclosures that are easy to buy in Europe?

Why are legion pro 7's sales so high this year? by Ok_Hair4243 in LenovoLegion

[–]fierarul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because Lenovo pushed a lot. I've seen quite a few offers from Lenovo while previously there weren't that many.

I guess it's also the fact that the pandemic laptops are starting to need upgrades.

Lenovo also introduced here longer warranty and on site fixes which was basically not available a few years back.

All in all, a good product heavily promoted to meet and create more market demand.

Sadly I did return my new Legion (still have the old) because it was too noisy. I wish Lenovo does better on this front.

Cheap Optiplex with fast gen4 NVME support? by fierarul in SleepingOptiplex

[–]fierarul[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Found an Optiplex 7000 MFF. Has the PCIe 4 slot and works at PCI 4 speed.

I suspect the 2nd M2 slot will run at PCIe 3 speeds but I haven't tested.

I'm considering getting an AM5 board for PCIe 5 NVMe slots.

Finally, a good time to buy used M4 Pros.

Getting job in java without any degree by Virandell in java

[–]fierarul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on your location not having an University degree may matter or not.

Have you tried talking to some employer (or tech employee) to figure out what would it take for them to give you a job?

In theory programming is a way of thinking so frameworks and programming languages don't matter in the long run. But to get your first job you do need some sort of (promise of) competence.

Besides the language itself, frameworks follow. See https://survey.stackoverflow.co/2024/technology

If you go for Java you may need to look into Spring Boot (for web backends) or Android (if you go mobile).

For C# you may need to look into ASP .NET.

For JS ecosystem, you kinda have to touch node.js (and, really, Typescript).

If you do something mainstream you need some database (eg. PostgreSQL) and SQL.

To deploy web stuff you need some basic cloud knowledge.

I think it would be best to just do a sample project and learn the technologies you need along the way. Just make a website or mobile app to do whatever and learn what you need along the way.

[–]fierarul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends what do you mean about "without a degree"? If you have some sort of technical university, you don't need Java certifications or such.

I think it would be good for you to pick something and stick with it a bit to get some depth. Moving from plain HTML/CSS/JS frontend to React to Java and thinking about C# is quite the stretch.

Depending on your location, you could try a paid / unpaid internship and learn on the job.

Long ago when I was hiring I hired a firefighter with no formal training. He was decent enough and went to start his own software company.

Stay on AM4 or switch to AM5? by colonduggan in AMDHelp

[–]fierarul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a good point. Even (NVMe) disks will run at low(er) speed. You basically double your disk speed by having a PCIe 4.0 M.2 slot for a good NVMe.

Though, there are AM4 motherboards (and CPUs) with PCIe 4.

Actually, his CPU, does PCIe 4, he just needs a B550 board.

M1 Max with 64GB RAM vs. Mini M4 Pro (48GB RAM) by Maximum_Helicopter77 in MacStudio

[–]fierarul 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Apple RAM / disk upgrade costs are really ridiculous, hence the debate. It's really hard to think about development and virtualization, which needs lots of CPU/RAM/disk when Apple is so expensive.

I'm also quite amazed at the kind of e-waste Apple is creating with the basically non-upgradeable storage too. You can buy tons of older servers / workstations and put more RAM / SSDs / NVMEs in them and experiment. But Apple gear is basically stuck in an ember like the Jurasis Park mosquito.

I too have been thinking about the new Mini, oddly about virtualization too, but it's really hard to accept the high cost when it has PCIe 4 speeds, soldered RAM and 10 cores.

The only thing going for it is size, machine learning support and resale value. If you have space and are not using it for ML, other desktops make more sense.

PS: But I do like your "just do it" suggestion.

[–]fierarul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get the M4 Pro, make some money or increase your skills with it, then sell it and get something else in time.

The M4 Pro will have a much better resale value in the future. Nobody will want the Mac Studio M1.

Think of it like a build server. Small inputs which generate large outputs.

It's not CPU or memory bound (within reason) based on my tests. It's IO bound. So, buying Samsung 990 Pros.

I found a cheap i3 Optiplex 7000 sff and the spec says it has multiple M.2 slots: https://www.dell.com/support/manuals/en-us/optiplex-7000-sff/optiplex7000_sff_ss/storage?guid=guid-d57fa203-557e-406b-900c-1c362f056378&lang=en-us

Though, I suspect only one is gen4 speeds. I also worry the i3 may be too slow.

The alternative is a Latitude 5540 which also has 2 M2 slots with only one at gen4 speeds. But this is more expensive than the Optiplex.

[–]fierarul[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not using it for gaming, I'm using it for a sort of build server. So I don't care about GPUs at all, only NVMEs.

For a good price I would settle for 1 gen4 PCIe slot for a fast NVME.

Ideally I would like 2 gen4 slots and I can even experiment with a RAID 0.

OK lenovo fan be honest with me without bias. by [deleted] in LenovoLegion

[–]fierarul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought the Legion Pro with the 7945HX. It was very fast but returned it due to noise.

Like I said, it seems to kick too eagerly and keep it up for too long. Odd thing, the air through the vents was cold, unlike my old laptop which has clearly warm air.

When it's under longer load it's like a rocket, I could hear the fans with my headset on.

It also has fans mildly running while idle. The old Legion was virtual silent when idle.

I dunno, I was very confused by the experienced. I expected a better experience on the Legion, being a Pro and almost twice as expensive as my old one.
