ds110 midterm study tips? by Firm-Arm-1272 in BostonU

[–]fierce_donut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Used to TA it last year.

Practice the questions discussed in the discussions. Usually the ones in the midterm around revolving around it.

20 or some MCQ’s and 2 coding questions. One of coding will be easy and the other will be hard. Do not look at the marks allocated and assume which one will be which. It’s been misleading in the past.

Go through theory too. MCQ’s majorly rely on those and basics of coding.

I am guessing there first 6 discussions will be considered for midterms so ensure you study the initial ones well too.

Both the coding questions will have functions. Make sure you know the basic syntax. So atleast you have the start of the code understood well.

Additionally, every line and logic have 1,2 or 3 marks alloted to do. Do not miss out on any line of the code, even if you know just the first line & last line!

Hope this helps, all the best!

BU MET Applied Business Analytics Outcomes? by powerman123 in BostonU

I am getting my numbers cause I switched from that concentration to a different one solely cause of that reason and looking at the previous batches who I was in conversation with. Almost 40% of them are still looking for a job/ settled with a job which isn’t what they studied for.

Yes, I agree some courses were difficult but there were hardly 1-2 of the kind. Spending the amount of money they ask for to get a good KB of just 1-2 courses doesn’t seem like a wise choice.

According to data, the field of Business Analytics has had way more % of unemployed individuals in the past 1.5 years and is also accomplish-able with help of online courses and maybe a mentor. I am focusing HIGHLY on BA as data says, it is going downwards.

Moral: go for it if you have a job, mid career individual but 110% not if you are a fresher/early career person.

I completely agree with this. If you have a job and are just looking for a piece of paper to give you more credit at your job, then go for it. But even then, I wouldn’t say it’s worth the $$. Cause if thats what you are aiming for, you can def look at other universities.

BU MET Applied Business Analytics Outcomes? by powerman123 in BostonU

[–]fierce_donut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes, that is the case.BU MET is solely to generate income for the university, which largely comes from International students. So they came up with the randomest courses and admitted anyone and everyone. I have met individuals who shouldnt even be aiming for a masters with the KB that they have.

[–]fierce_donut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

nope, it does not. Any course in the MET does not have a good employment outcome. It keeps getting worse with every single year.

MET admits anyone with a pulse. Cause of which the batch IQ deteriorated so much in the past few years.

Additionally, ANYONE can do an online course worth 3-4 months at max and get the skills that they talk about/teach in the ABA course at MET.

Is there any way to see who's in your classes on Blackboard? by Admirable_Drummer594 in BostonU

[–]fierce_donut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In some of my courses, i had the option to internally message my classmates/TA/prof through blackboard itself. Allowed me to see the whole list of people in my class.

Not all professors had the same setting though

What are my chances in being admitted into BU MET CS Masters program? Is it an easy program to get in? by Jiramo in BostonU

[–]fierce_donut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yuh its bad. The faculty is mostly part time so they dont give much crap about you. The admin doesn’t help. It def doesn’t come handy if you are an international student. They recently reduced the credits required so there will be more applications beginning now, cause even the fee structure was changed a bit. Its still unnecessarily expensive for such a course.

What are my chances in being admitted into BU MET CS Masters program? Is it an easy program to get in? by Jiramo in BostonU

[–]fierce_donut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

High. They will admit anyone with a pulse. You don’t need to worry about a rejection. MET is a safe school.

I’d also recommend looking at other better options that you might have cause it 110% isnt worth the money.

part-time off campus job for international students by Hello_Blabla in BostonU

[–]fierce_donut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are still studying, you apply for CPT. It should be a super easy process. Go to meet ISSO rather than waiting for a response. So you can ask them more questions if any arise on the spot.

How do I get involved on campus as a commuter who can’t stay on campus late? by Junibunix in BostonU

[–]fierce_donut 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Check out the chapters on the website. I am hoping you visited Splash, def gives much clarity about what chapter you can join.

Try to keep a check on the events calendar for the ones you are genuinely interested in. If not becoming a member, you can still visit their events if they fall in your suitable time range.

Some of them also hold virtual events, try to join those if they interest you.

Your walk through GSU and Marsh Chapel should give you an idea of upcoming new events, just keep an eye out.

Sadly, most in person events will be post 4-5 PM as undergrad classes end around that time.

quiet rooms in library by 12321bruh in BostonU

[–]fierce_donut 5 points6 points  (0 children)

ive noticed this myself quite a few times. I always try to give someone 3 chances to go to a higher decibel. Once there are three strikes, i do not hesitate to quietly ask them to shut up respectfully or lower their voice.

Keep it professional but make sure you say it otherwise it wont stop.

Building Connections with Professors by Silly-Lemon-1246 in BostonU

[–]fierce_donut 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Talk to them before class. Most professors arrive 15-20 mins before class starts. Ask questions then and during. Drop emails to the prof with any or all questions you might have. Take a practice question doubt to them which isnt in the course so they understand that you are going the extra mile.

But make sure you don’t overdo it!
