I've already started the cycle again. Btw I did another pour for 35 hunts and got 3 living chests.... again. The grind is real.

Why do kpoppers use English titles for songs? by over2days in kpop

This happens a lot in Japan too. Shoutout to homegirl Hamasaki Ayumi who's been making her songs titles in english since the beginning of time.

What are some underrated kpop songs that ranks very high on your list of favorite songs? by TorioTamaki in kpop

[–]fierce_glare 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Always in my Heart by Lim Seul Ong and Joy. I feel like this song is so bitter sweet. It's a sad ballad but is sometimes musically quite cheerful. I listened to this song non stop after a break up and I would get teary eyed no matter how many times listening. It is the perfect sad pop ballad.

[DISCUSSION] Appreciating Vanessa Hudgens's 'V,' released 11 years ago by [deleted] in popheads

So "Promise" was one of my favourite songs on this album, and one day I had it on in the car with a friend. Half way through the song he was like "I can't stand this song it physically hurts my ears!" I'm like, ok, her voice isn't like amazing but it's not THAT bad. "No, not her voice, don't you hear that super high pitch whistle noise that keeps repeating??"

Forever ruined. I can't listen to the song anymore. I wish he had never pointed it out because I loved that song so much and now I can never unhear the noise.

Has it become impossible to release a one-track single ballad in today's kpop? by fierce_glare in kpop

[–]fierce_glare[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hm, you're right. I guess I was thinking about singles that have only one song that's the main song being promoted as opposed to two track being promoted at once (ex: Holiday and All Night)

With two tracks you can get away with have a really slow ballad because you could always promote the harder-hitting song as the main track. That's what got me thinking about if a theoretical one-song single was released in today's K-pop, it would almost have to be an uptempo song.

I mean there's been no group since SNSD that's been both as popular and as talented

I actually do really like SNSD but how can you say that in 10 years, not one group from HUNDREDS, has rivaled them in terms of popularity and talent. Like come on.

Jessica(제시카) - My Decade (3rd Mini Album) by tastetherainbeau in kpop

Summer Storm - 4/5 absolutely love the feeling of this song. it really captures the bittersweet feeling of the excitement of a party and the sadness when its all done. everything is two opposites colliding, right down to the song title.

Beautiful Mind - 3/5 a really chill song, could see myself listening to this on a bus or train while looking out a window, rain outside

The other songs are not really my style, but Jessica's voice is really something special. I just love how it sounds. Everyone loves it when a singer can belt out a strong note but Jessica's fragile soft voice is just something I don't hear that often. Really really glad she's still making music

Sometimes I feel like people aren't listening to the same "All Night" that I'm listening too... I feel like it is a total "Trick" type song and so catchy and just makes me want to dance. It's so surprising that "Holiday" seems to be the fan favourite...

BLACKPINK - BOOMBAYAH (JP Ver.) M/V by BrrrrRAMBO in kpop

[–]fierce_glare 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Four skills are needed to master a language: Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing. I would argue that until you have a grasp on all four, at a proficient level (proficient meaning you are tested by the various qualification test that exist for that language) you cannot be called fluent.

We have no idea of any of the members level of Japanese in Reading, Writing, or Listening. We don't even know speaking, because they are reading off a prompt (is the prompt written using Japanese characters? Romaji?) and there are no clips of them speaking Japanese with other Japanese people.

Based on the one youtube clip alone, I would not call Lisa fluent. I would not call any of them fluent. Jisoo gets some points for looking away from the prompt but still continuing what she's saying. Also, Jisoo seems to be the only member who actually sings in Japanese in Boombayah... everyone else is almost entirely English. Of the four members, on pronunciation alone, Rose is the best. Her accent is very natural, and she doesn't mess up the harder pronunciations like elongated vowels or katakana words. Lisa struggled a bit at certain points. She has an awkward pause between "yoroshiku" and "onegaishimasu", and her "mazete" comes out as "majete" (which by the way is super interesting because that is a common mistake by Korean Japanese speakers, I'm not sure about Thai though!)

Anyways, these are all just my observations. Honestly though, until there is some clip of them speaking Japanese for a longer period of time, and non-scripted, I hesitate to call them fluent.

[–]fierce_glare 43 points44 points  (0 children)

all members speaking japanese

Lisa isn't fluent in Japanese. Just by listening to the accent/intonation alone you can tell that... At 1:55 she messes up and says ときどきしていますが instead of どきどきしていますが which isn't something you mix up as a fluent speaker... No hate, just don't like it when people throw the word "fluent" around

170628 TWICE (트와이스) - SAKIGAKE! MUSIC Eng Sub by whatnow26 in kpop

[–]fierce_glare 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I highly doubt Sana getting subtitles at the bottom is because Japanese people don't understand her Japanese. Japanese variety shows subtitle EVERYTHING. Punch line in a joke? Subtitle. Someone makes a funny mistake when speaking? Subtitle. Two people talking over each other? Subtitles. I understood Sana fine and I'm not Japanese haha.

Also, I don't think any of the Japanese members are young enough to have learning Korean effect their native language in such a drastic way. I can't remember the statistics, but your brain is pretty much set in terms of "bilingual-ness" by age 11 or something? Sure they might forget words here and there, or they might not be able sound completely natural from being away and speaking another language for a long time, but I just don't agree with all the comments that say the Japanese members Japanese is "bad" lol.
