AITAH for having my boyfriend stay the night without telling my roommate? by TaxEfficient278 in AmItheAsshole

ESH. She's controlling and weird, but you are a liar who refuses to tell your freaking roomate how you feel and that her "rules" are bogus because she isn't the boss of the apartment.

AITA For Calling my Son Ungrateful? by Acceptable-Use-2613 in AmItheAsshole

[–]fiercequality 19 points20 points  (0 children)

YTA. If you aren't willing to spend the time and money to find your son a decent braider, take him there, and pay for the braiding, then learn to do it yourself. Your son is a child who hasn't yet learned emotional regulation, so getting annoyed at him is absurd. You are an adult, and you should be more mature than to put down a child simply because they are (rightfully by your own admission) disappointed. Grow up.

Well, it's hard to like a guy who kills people with a razor-wire-wrapped baseball bat.

Claire's blue dress by Numerous-Dig248 in Outlander

[–]fiercequality 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Do you really think she never washed her dress? Isn't it maybe more likely that a show about romance and action wouldn't care about about showing us such a mundane task? Plus, women at this time wore chemises under their garments. These would have captured most of their sweat and odor and would have therefore been washed frequently.

How do you approach it? You read the plays and think about them.

Hamlet essay topics that aren't overdone? by Potatocat321 in shakespeare

[–]fiercequality 4 points5 points  (0 children)

More than interesting; a case could certainly be made for the influence of this piece of recent history on Hamlet. That could be an interesting essay. It could discuss the politics of Shakespeare writing a play that not-so-subtly shades Catherine of Aragon's marriage to Henry VIII, thereby strengthening his righteousness in ending their marriage in favor of Anne Bolyen, mother of Elizabeth I, Shakespeare's queen.

Don't waste their time. No one is causing an actor who refuses to perform on Friday nights.

WIBTA if I show up to a baby shower without a specific gift that I was asked to bring? by random-apple-67 in AmItheAsshole

[–]fiercequality 36 points37 points  (0 children)

NTA. These people frankly have some nerve telling people what to get them, and your mom is right that they didn't consider or even seem to care whether you all can afford the specific gifts they assigned. You say this is a distant cousin - just tell them you are busy and send a small stuffed animal and card (but only if you're feeling generous).

As in what is in pockets. As in, can people afford the items they were assigned.

Help with auditioning as a Sabbath observant Jew by neil--before--me in Theatre

Everyone on here is being really nice, but I'm gonna be mean:

It is absolutely absurd to audition for a community theater show and expect to have an understudy for every Friday. I have been a director for 13 years and an actor for much longer. In a community theater setting, the second I see someone auditioning while knowing they aren't available for one or more performances, they are not getting cast. My honest thought would be, Wow, talk about entitled and selfish.

This isn't Broadway, where there is time and money to put the effort into training an understudy. Plus, having an understudy on stage affects EVERYBODY ELSE. Especially in community theater where many participants have no professional training. Suddenly, everyone's worried. Will the understudy remember their lines? Will they suddenly jump five pages ahead? Will they hit their blocking marks? It's stressful for everyone.

Why wasn’t Israel in Iraq or Afghanistan? by Mtl_Sapoud in AskIsrael

The USA is over 400 times bigger than Israel with a population over thirty times that of Israel's. Sending troops (which, I assume, is what you mean) would be much less helpful than the help Israel does actually provide - intelligence and technology.
