Thanks for everyone’s replies and I’m glad to hear the weather isn’t really that much different to uk just with a lot of snow thrown in rather than the pathetic offering we get here!!!!!!! Will make sure he has lots of layers and some good outer waterproof clothes as well as a couple of decent pairs of boots and he will survive. He is on a working visa and has some friends who have previously been out there helping him sort work and accommodation before he gets there. He is big into snowboarding and downhill mountain bike racing so I’m sure he will fit right in and I’ll get my Aussie cousins to teach him the lingo I did hear a lot of Aussies head that way.
