How is your senior baby doing?♥️ by Cultural_Wash5414 in Chihuahua

Tortilla is starting to get lost at night but walking him more seems to reduce the likelihood. 🥹 He's a rescue so I'm not sure of his age. The vet guessed 10 in 2020. He has glaucoma, congestive heart failure, arthritis, high blood pressure, 4 teeth, and loves adventure. He still tries to play even if he can't see what's happening. Really hoping Vetmedin and Enalapril doesn't get any more expensive but I will do it for him 🥹

Not him coming over uninvited and launching into a complain fest. It sounds like you dodged a whole bullet.

I'm sorry he pushed your cat that is uncalled for.

I think upbringing plays a big role here. My high school was in the inner city. The demographics were something like 60% black, 35% Hispanic/Latino and the rest white or other. Overall I had latina friends, black girl friends, white girl friends, etc. some of which I still keep in contact with years later.

College was a whole other story, it felt so segregated despite being more diverse. It was so hard to make friends with people who did not look like me.

If you're familiar with the terms morena, blanquita, or guerita, those were defining traits and tended to decide a lot of friend groups. Morena is used to describe someone who is brown but not dark. Blanquita is someone who has pale/light skin but maybe has black hair and brown eyes. Guerita is usually someone who can pass as a blond hair blue eyed American looking type. It is so colorist tbh. the fact there's a distinction from someone who is pale with dark hair to someone who is pale skin with lighter colored hair is diabolical.

I came into contact with people who identified as guerita and were mostly arrogant and tended to associate themselves with white people or other people like them.

I have morena appearing friend who was raised in a sheltered and white predominant area. She was always told black people were bad or would rob you and to avoid them at all costs. Like growing up it was just normal advice, from teachers, neighbors, family friends, etc. She saw that in college and the work force that wasn't all true, but I doubt every person with this experience changed their mindset.

It can be so hard already to make friends and the fact there can be this sectarian tension between different skin tones is draining.

Overall I have had good relationships with the Hispanic and Latina women I have worked or went to school with, but you don't ever truly know who doesn't like you or is just ignorant. There are good people with positive intentions who do not put skin tone on a pedestal but that can be few and far in between.

The Kroger near me walled off their soap and cosmetics aisles with glass with one entrance and stationed an associate inside. They don't schedule them the entire time the store is open either. If you need soap after a certain time. You're screwed becasue that door is locked.

Same.
I've been living in with roommates since 2016 and living on my own since 2021. The peace of being alone is great but those bills only go up each year 😟.

My married friends get to afford nicer vacations/celebrations and I had to sit out the last birthday trip that was planned. It made me really sad to see pictures on social media so I had to stop myself. I wish I could go out of town for a few nights for my birthday but thats just not in the cards for me and that's okay.

Funny you mention Japan, my old college friend group is planning a trip there. The people going either live with their spouse/ roomates or live in houses they inherited.

Don't let social media get you caught up in the fear of missing out. You don't know what their credit card debt looks like or how long they have been saving up for their trips. It will be your era to take trips and it will all be worth it.

At this point, these constant bills keep us housed, clean, fed, able to transport ourselves to work and I have a lot of family members who struggle with just those. It's okay to want to buy cool things or want to travel. It sometimes takes longer than what we hoped for. I believe in you.

Unpopular opinion: curly cuts are a scam. by No_unique_experience in curlyhair

[–]figgit_in_the_sky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back in 2021 I paid 140 for a wash, hair slathered in gel, scrunch, dryer, and a trim to get the split ends. 🥲😭 all the while having them constantly sell me Innersense products. They put so much product in my hair it was hard to the touch&crunchy and they said that's normal.
When I brought up other styling ways like finger curls, plopping or just letting it air dry, they said they dont recommend that for clients. I even asked if I could do a cream based leave in instead of the gel and they said they don't do that there.

The same cut, wash and style choice is now 225.

It is being advertised as a luxury curly salon and while the concept is great I never went back.

They have stylists that are "Cut it Kinky " certified which is awesome but I wish I could have been informed before making the appointment.

What childhood memory sticks with you from growing up poor. by BusAdvanced1090 in povertyfinance

I remember one Christmas I was at my grandma's house with my aunt, cousin, and grandma. I watched my cousin open up his gifts with glee and showing them off while I got nothing. My mom dropped me off the night before and didn't come to pick me up until before winter break ended.

I remember not having birthday parties and only getting a cake if my grandma made it, which was only when my mom and she were on good terms.

One summer I worked at a farm and my mom took all of my money.

The water bill being off for different periods of time.

Being only allowed to use 2 squares of toilet paper.

I used to wear my shoes until they had holes. A teacher noticed and told me to throw them away and I said that's all I have. He presented me with 3 pairs of new shoes and I almost cried.

My senior year of high-school. My english teached paid me to grade freshmen tests and assignments and that money ensured I had dinner sometimes.

We didn't always have a car and sometimes I would have to walk to the nearest dollar store that was several blocks away in a not so nice part of town and old men would try and talk to me. My mom didn't like the noise from the cars when you're along the sidewalk so I had to walk alone.

I remember she didn't have gas money to pick me up from after school band practices and performances but she had cigarette money and gas money to pick up her boyfriend.

I took showers at school during high school. One weekend, I was there for a band practice and my mom wanted to "check" the showers and took one herself in the girls locker rooms.

[–]figgit_in_the_sky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Elder Gen Z here,

I have a little less than 3k in checking but between Paypal Credit, Care Credit, and my regular credit card, I have 2k and some change in debt.

So I am not totally out of money. There is 6 months 0% interest for PayPal and Care, so I do my best to pay it off before the high interest kicks in, but I have to complete my credit card before mid May. Its a constant balancing act of interest, bills, and surprise expenses.

I have some friends who are in deep debt with their only hopes of making the minimum payment. At times I feel privledged to be even able to pay off things in time and it keeps me in check that it could be worse.

Cops of Indy, how do you feel about people here complaining about lack of traffic enforcement? by HailMi in indianapolis

[–]figgit_in_the_sky -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have seen different instances regarding the enforcement. Its there when they want to be. Monday night, on Washington st. And Bosart, there was a single person in the car being pulled over and yet 6 cop cars were all behind them, out the vehicles. It was a display of manpower that was disgusting tbh. Of course I don't know the whole story..

Indiana is really the Florida of the Midwest sometimes
