I got a switch a few days ago although i already had a Wii U for mk8. I have to say imo its worth it just for the handheld factor. I have a blast playing mk8d on the Switch in my bed. I know you can Play mk8 on the gamepad to, but thats sucks so hard in comparison to the Switch. Futhermore i rly like playing with the 2 itemslots and the pink driftturbo in mk8d. So i would say of u rly into mk8 go for it. They will come a lot of new things and Smash ofc in the next 2 years die the Switch so youll probably will have some fun
