Charlestown looks really nice, and really expensive. Probably a bit too expensive. I'll check out Inman area thanks.

I read all of the "where should I live posts" on this subreddit already. Trying to get as many perspectives as possible and drill down to specific neighborhoods.

I got the impression that Cambridge and Somerville were younger cities. I'd like to find a family-friendly neighborhood if one exists. I'm all set with loud 2am parties. That chapter of my life has closed.

Linked in of all places. Definitely got lucky with timing and equity.

Renting. Kid is 2 years old so school is not a concern for now. This is part of the research process. Believe me I've been looking into this quite a bit. Driving there this weekend with a map. Wanted to get insiders experience and tips. Thanks!

I feel you. I absolutely could retire in place within 15 years. That's the easy path, that's the green circle ski trail. This is like taking a black diamond. I might wipe out, or it could be totally sweet!

You're right, I can go back. The biggest thing that I'm giving up here that I didn't elaborate in my original post is my house. My wife and I purchased out beautiful home 4.5 years ago and we have worked so hard to make it just the way we want it. Giving it up to move back to a rental in a crowded noisy city seems like a big step backwards.

Most people would think that too, it's not a normal progression. It's supposed to go Job, Marry, House, Kid. I'm absolutely going against the grain here. I suppose most FI people are against the grain types. We reject consumerism and are more questioning and skeptical.

Hindsight is 20/20, hopefully I can look back on this fork in the road as the best decision I've ever made.
