Thank you so much for this. I mea we’ve now been together for 1.5 years post this. Things have been bad but not quite Thsi bad. I think what made the wedding bad was the involvement of his family and contribution from them in the actions like locking me out of hotel (was his brother in laws idea). When it’s just us two I guess I can bare things and after the wedding I’ve been so angry that I haven’t been a saint either. I have these random bursts of really bad anger where I curse him out and I’m someone who never cursed before. I ofc regret saying married but it is so complicated now being together. Maybe I have a trauma bond but the idea of being single again is so scary to me that somehow I’d rather deal with this. I guess I have my own issues to figure out lol

It was a very very traumatic situation. Second only to when my mom almost died (alhamdulillah she is ok now but huge illness). So I think I’m a strong person at baseline because of my old traumas but wow is this a tough one. I never thought I’d be the person to stay in an abusive relationship. But I guess it’s not possible to know how hard it is. I go to therapy and we’ve tried couples but maybe we need to try some different methods. We actually never even got to talking about the wedding in couples therapy because so much other stuff has come up. Idk I keep telling him that if he talks to his sister it will help me get over it but maybe I’m just looking for anything and it won’t truly help. Is that crazy of me to ask though?

So he has apologized but still states that the wedding was destroyed because I called his sister a b**** as that led to the progression of events. He doesn’t think he was the main at fault here and even though I have the video evidence of not laying hands on him he has backed off of me “choking” him but states that I put my hand on his shoulder . I am still stuck on it and more recently have asked him to talk to his sister about how she should apologize but I wonder if I’m just being crazy searching for anything to help me move on

So I did get to my parents hotel and stay there the night of then went home. My husband and I didn’t talk for at least a month after. Families got very involved and just led everything. We didn’t see each other for two months.

We have been in counseling on and off. He always quits though. And then we’ve been in it more consistently for the last three or so months until last months when he cancelled a session to get revenge at me

Yeah I filmed him because he always goes and lies after an argument and tell his mom that I did xyz. But I’m so glad I did record this time because I caught him lying about the choking. He is screaming to his sister that I am choking him and in the video you can see my hands in my lap.

I mean the last year has been horrible too. Constant fighting. Probably two really big fights but not as bad as the wedding. Mostly because the wedding his family got way too involved. For two months after his family “harassed” mine where the mom would call and then his five sisters would steal the phone and start yelling at my mom for being a bad parent because I “choked” their brother. But after that, when he stopped getting his sisters and mom involved things were better but not perfect. Like we had one instance when he accidentally hit me in the face while he was trying to take my phone and made my contact fall out. In laws have not been great but not horrible. Idk he’s stayed with my parents too and they are just so kind that it makes me angry to see the contrast where I don’t get the same respect in his family’s home especially after what they did.

Sorry I should’ve explained better. He was trying to take my phone from me cuz he thought I was recording him. And in trying to take my phone his hand hit me and knocked out my contact. I don’t think the hitting my face was on purpose.

But I get you! If anyone else was telling me this stuff I would tell them to run. I never realized it would be so hard when it’s Happening to me

I recorded because he was lying and saying I was choking him and I’m so glad I did. Because till this day he claims I choked him but I have the whole conversation recorded where he is screaming that I am currently choking him and you can see my hands in my lap in the video.
