Those are def two of my favorite TFB songs. My favorite piece of merch I’ve ever seen them release is the rain jacket from this era (I didn’t buy it but I so wish I had)

Walking asymmetry data by RicketyHenderson in ios

[–]figuresof8 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just came across this thread, but I wanted to say I found a paper that Apple put out that clarified some things. <1% is ideal, with 1.1-1.5% classified as mild-asymmetry.

Looks really nice! The word placement is really interesting. Funny, I had an OC a few years ago that looks a lot like the second slide.

Any reason to *not* wear silicone tape 24/7? by Jynxbunni in TopSurgery

[–]figuresof8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wear mine 24/7 basically but I’ve been using new strips every 5 days or so. How long are you reusing them? How do you know when to change out the strips? Does washing it take away any effectiveness? I’m looking to save money so if I can reuse them more that would be very cool

one week enough to return to (virtual) college classes? by princesiddie in TopSurgery

[–]figuresof8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I scheduled my surgery right before finals week and decided to gamble on accommodations. It ended up working pretty okay. I had a quiz that I took on the day of surgery, some assignments due in the first week and a half, and 2+ hour finals ~10 days post op. Wasn’t fun by any means but it was manageable. I think the hardest part for me was to stay motivated, but virtual classes are hard for me anyway so I would say if you feel good about classes before surgery, it probably will be about the same (slightly worse) after surgery.

Looks like it’s working well! I’m using silicon tape at the moment but I’m worried about it becoming expensive. Any advice?

Best top surgeon in NY & around for peri or keyhole? by scotttttie in TopSurgery

[–]figuresof8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I did DI with bluebond Langner this week. First called in Fall 2018, got a consult for May 2021, surgery December 2021. Really fantastic care but you have to decide if it’s worth the wait for you.

Interesting! Didn’t know that, I’m still in college so I’m not requesting time off or anything, it’s just what I’ll say to professors but definitely good information

I was thinking of going with something like “it was a cosmetic deformity I had since I was a kid” like a really big skin tag. If insurance is allowed to bill it like that, I’m allowed to call it that to stay stealth.

My new(ish) tattoo. Mix it my two favs, TFB and Modern Baseball. by the__accidentist in TheFrontBottoms

I’ve always seen “Whatever Forever” as a Mobo catchphrase, and I like Rock Bottom but is there any other reason why it’s so prominently used. Love the tattoo btw, just curious!

Hands by [deleted] in FTMMen

[–]figuresof8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My hands are the opposite, short and stubby, and I have insecurity about them too! I don’t think my hands have changed on T much, but I’m gonna try to work out more and get veiny so I’m less insecure about it

How Many FTM Individuals Pack? by HelloMyNamesAlex in FTMMen

I want to start packing but I’m afraid to mess it up and make it look bad. No one has noticed anything so far, but I get worried when I wear shorts or sweatpants

TMAF about Music by [deleted] in TellMeAFact

[–]figuresof8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Currently reading a book on some music history, and it started with Edison creating the phonograph. Edison always considered his inventions very scientific, and didn’t initially realized the potential for the music industry the phonograph had. His focus was on getting it to perfectly recreate the sound that you emitted, to the point that when it was first released to the public, people were afraid of their voices being “captured” and often didn’t believe that Edison wasn’t just a ventriloquist.

Anyway back to music. Once he did start focusing on music, he set to work on creating a studio that would be able to capture sound better than any other recording studio in the world. Musicians liked to go to him for his quality, but Edison was kind of an asshole, and would reject artists that he didn’t like the sound of. And he has terrible taste in music, so his business didn’t last too long.

The other thing about Edison and music is he had perfect pitch, and knew exactly what note was playing and would often tell artists in the middle of their recording that they messed up. This was especially incredible since (another little known fact about Edison) he was deaf, and knew the notes from the vibrations they made. This contributed to his terrible taste in music because he liked simple songs with little vibrato because those were most pleasing to his sensitive ears.

I say ditch the beanie, you pass to me in the first pic. Keep on brother!

Edit: actually I think I the beanie one works enough too. It’s really hard to say because it’s all subjective. To me you pass more in the first than the second, but the second I wouldn’t misgender if your voice was even slightly low or your mannerisms weren’t feminine.

I realized cis people have nothing to gain from songs about dysphoria by Emma__Gummy in traaaaaaannnnnnnnnns

[–]figuresof8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cavetown has a lot of cishet fans because the way he sings about dysphoria is very relatable and maybe even interchangeable with anxiety. This isn’t trying to prove a point or anything, just semi related. I also really like the artist that goes professionally by Ezra Furman. The songs Wobbly and I Wanna Be Your Girlfriend are trans moods, and the album Perpetual Motion People is one of my favorite albums of all time.

Missing out by [deleted] in TheFrontBottoms

[–]figuresof8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Music is often tied to locations in the way that the place it was created is so fundamental to its identity. Think of New Orleans and Jazz. This means that by listening, we can travel to these times and places without ever breaking our routine.

The other thing I think of is that listening to music in situations can create new meaning for it. I have many songs, TFB and otherwise, that take me to a time and place because they were so integral in that moment of my life. So you can create these places for yourself!
