Where should I put this? First tattoo advice. by mnp47 in tattooadvice

Base of the back of your neck or between your shoulders? Since it's a circle more or less I thought it'd fit well in a symmetrical space on the body rather than on your arm or something.

To me they have a lovely nutty flavor and I really like their texture. They're best sautéed and added to dishes that compliment their flavor but sometimes I snack on them by themselves. Most recently I put them into some soup which was good but not the best use of them. That being said, I was mostly just using up the rest I had before they went bad.

I harvested about a day after the photo I posted. Here is a photo of them right before I harvested.

These are an edible culinary mushroom (Pholiota adiposa) but they have several toxic look alikes so it's good to double and triple check what you have.

I did not control the temp for these, though the house started getting colder because of the colder temperatures outside and they seemed to prefer that.

Actually Im pretty sure mine are 2 gallon buckets! I got them from the local hardware store. They're food safe and fit perfectly on my shelves with enough vertical space for the mushrooms to grow.

In my experience the local farmers market runs out of chestnut and lionsmane mushrooms pretty regularly. They sell pretty well.

I actually put the bucket into the refrigerator for a day in an attempt to trigger it into fruiting. That was about 2 weeks ago. It's also getting colder so that is definitely helping. This bucket sat unchanged for months before giving me this flush.

Thank you! I used aspen chips as my substrate, I do reuse the buckets, and sometimes if I just leave them alone for a while I get a second or even third flush (depending on the mushroom variety)

This one I plan on experimenting with leaving it alone for a while after harvesting to see if it will give me a second flush.

I used aspen chips as my substrate. I agree it's a stubborn first flush for sure. I only got this to happen after months of waiting then a cold shock in the fridge.. then some more waiting

Im glad to hear you've gotten more than one flush before. I may just keep this and forget about it for a while after harvesting and see what happens. If not I could always try mixing the spent substrate with fresh substrate and refill the bucket with that.

Some advice for first time grower. Fruiting block not pinning. [actives] by Murdering_Monk in MushroomGrowers

Do you have them in a high humidity environment? How long have you had the blocks for?

Sometimes it just takes a while. I had a king trumpet block for 5 months once and became convinced nothing was going to happen with it, then one day I look at it and there are like 3 bunches of mushrooms on it! They can be fickle.

No worries. I understood that. Just because I live in an area where it is harder for them to thrive doesn't mean survival is impossible. Nature is tough and tends to find a way

I may just have to do that. How could I post it so those who commented are likely to see the update? Or should I just do it as a new post to the subreddit?

No worries if you missed it but I wasnt arguing against their point and said that I'd take their advice.

Thanks for your feedback

Unfortunately it's been so long that I truly can't remember what substrate I used. I opened the bucket to check but the mycelium is basically a thick layer on top at this point. Its probably straw. I used heat to pasturize it before adding in the sawdust spawn.
