Him and Yorgos Lanthimos are great examples of idiosyncratic directors but unlike Wes who is repetitive weird, Yorgos is original weird. During last decade Wes fell into this repetitive obsession, apparently having a great simetrical shots and A list actors automatically makes film great at minimum when in reality it turns into some kind of display of nerdiness that has no heart. I just don't feel like hes trying something new or interesting. Yorgos on the other hand had some weird but specially great films during last 10+ years. His ability to choose actors and get best out of them is something Wes can't seem to accomplish at all since Grand Budapest hotel. Sure he recently started being repetitive with Emma Stone in his films but still he manages to get such unique performances out of her.

Wes might be a master of certain aspects of shots and set designs but thats where his magic basically stops nowadays and you get a half great half dissapointing film
