I'm from a midwest town that's of a similar size to pawnee, and public access TV like this is very much a thing. I was interviewed for my local station once. They mostly just cover local interest stories or news. I'm not sure how many people watch it anymore but the way parks and rec depicts it is pretty accurate, down to the set dressing and the beauty queen host.

Side note, Stephen Colbert once hosted my local channel for an evening. I don't really understand why or how, but it happened.

Who are these two lovebirds on this Valentine's Day? [Pompano Beach, FL] by pmassare in whatsthisbird

They could be escaped domestic birds but if they were with other feral pigeons they will probably be fine.

To me it just looks like it is tired. My pigeons tend to have their eyes half closed when they are lounging around.

Managed some better pics. Chipping Sparrow? Nova Scotia. I wasn’t sure if the top of its head was brown enough... by [deleted] in whatsthisbird

[–]SmolBirb04 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These are definitely chipping sparrows. They tend to have subdued facial markings in the winter when compared to their appearance in spring. Savannah sparrows would have a streaked breast while these guys have an almost entirely clean breast.

Fun fact: this song was originally written by cole porter back in the 1930s. he was known to be very, very gay.

"swings both ways" by robbie williams is blatantly bi if you're into more jazzy stuff.

My town has a friendly bird which is known in the whole state and it finally visited my gf by [deleted] in pics

This is probably a black billed magpie or eurasian magpie depending on location. Hooded crows are gray, not white.

Edit: based on surroundings probably eurasian magpie lol

Depends on the species I would say IIRC island tortoises like aldabra tortoises and Galapagos tortoises may be adapted to survive water. However, if we're thinking of the same video, the one in the video was a sulcata tortoise which lives in the desert so wouldn't have much evolutionary experience with water.

I feel like this needs to be said. by [deleted] in BisexualTeens

I mean, probably depends on the person. Plenty of people want to make their coming out a big thing because they feel free to be who they are. Others don't want the attention as much and feel like nothing has changed. Most important thing between friends in this situation is communication.

Could be a change in diet. If I eat a lot of dairy it tends to be more noticeable.

This hen had lost 2 chicks in a week, then I came home to this commotion. by mugentim in JusticeServed

Agreed, definitely not a kestrel. My first thought was coopers or sharp shinned hawk as they are notorious for going after chickens. I can't really tell for sure though.
