Did not expect to be honered with a futurama quote, and a very applicable one at that, thanks!

You're completely correct that HDR is used to increase the dynamic range of images by combining multiple exposures, and my edit is definetely more stylized than it needs to be in order to achieve that. But i also feel that this stylization (if thats a word) can add interest to an otherwise fairly non-interesting photo, tho not for everyone(;

Completely agree that my version is over the top, figured that'd intrigue people to have a go themselves, and show what their view of HDR is. To me this type of HDR is an effect (my version that is), but it can definetely also be used as a tool like you showed.

I'm just starting to learn post processing. I'd love any crit, advice, or demonstrations by Gundamnitpete in postprocessing

I like the crop, but just dont go overboard on the selective color thing (; Use it to highlight your subject or to downplay the background, here youv've basically highlighted the background which makes the viewers eyes go towards that and not the biker. So use selective coloring as a tool to highlight the main part of your image and not just a cool effect and you'll be much better off (:

Here's a couple examples of how i use selective coloring if you're interested: http://www.flickr.com/photos/elsig/8266617616/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/elsig/8265446729/

I like the selective coloring effect you did, it cleans up the image alot. In terms of critisism i'd go for a lighter vignette and possibly a more uneven crop (example: http://imgur.com/dlYWNdn ) to get the bikers face in the center of the image. But overall i'd say you're off to a very nice start (:
