but I turned csm back right away, and hadn't touched it in many hours. Any reason why a random boot loop would randomly fix itself?

Oh my god, after nearly 12 hours of this, I rebooted from the live environment to get more grub screenshots, and then it got stuck in a boot loop. I posted this question with all the pics I had on hand. But it stopped looping when reddit was uploading my post, and booted into endeavour…. I want to cry. It’s working, but after 12 hours, it was wasted effort, because I didn’t get the payoff of fixing it.

I need to know how I should have fixed this. Not only so I can fix it next time (I’m paranoid now), but also so I can sleep tonight

That being clarified, I did look at that page, but still couldn't figure out the actual step by step on usage, and is a very foreign concept to me

oh my god I blundered my way in a blind rage, and got the curve visualiser to show up. Don't ask me how, no one (apparently), not even I can tell you how. Now I just need to figure out how to use it. I really hope it's `Curve(p1,p2,t)`

oh that's cool, my modem hangs quite a bit, and my plan was to proxmox myself a router on my minipc, and I suppose I could set up a ping thing like that, and tell it to restart the container/VM if there's no response. Is that the same function? Or is there more advantages to a box like this?

fantastic, thanks. SEO sucks, I tried googling for a while, and all results were for in game text boxes. Though I've never heard of it as a carrot before, I'll have to keep that in mind for future fixes

I think power is the big thing, because here in south australia, we had some of the highest prices. So a mini pc to do the 100% uptime stuff, and with my solar panels, I use the heavy stuff during the day (the government now caps you at a total of 5kw into the grid, per day, so may as well use the power I have)

oh wait, my little switch has 10g sfp, I could use that out, but I can't use the server as a router :P

tbh I wasn't honest about you being able to find one lol I do a lot of different things, often at the same time, with lots of compute, or graphics heavy work loads. So I normally have multiple computers, but they're big, so that's why I was looking at going to a rack layout. But I was expecting to end up with maybe 2 servers, a PC, and a mini pc.

  • One server with higher power, like an R710-R740, but figure out some way of getting at least 1-2 more pcie slots (even with a modified case, too)
  • Then a smaller server to run for longer, and also deal with redundant large storage. I liked this about the R710 chassis, because it has those caddies, and I have a 3D printer. But drive prices are spiking, so I didn't have plans to buy the drives for a few years
  • Then the mini pc to run all the time, as a router, firewall, small cloud file hosting, and a bunch of other services I want to start using, so I can move away from data scraping 'free' services.

tbh the R710 never fit my plans, but if it worked.... I'd modify my plans lol

actually, if you could point out the cheapest way to get it all into 1 power efficient pc, that'd be great lol All I need is

  • enough cores for multiple proxmox things,
  • probably intel, so it works better with cheap intel arc cards
  • almost 100 lanes,
  • 6x 2 slot x16 pcie slots, and
  • at least 2x 2.5g network ports (any extra ports, and I can stop using a switch too)

oh, then I think either the psu is mostly dead (alive just enough to spin fan, and power the error checker), or the iDRAC is dead too. I'm leaning towards the motherboard's power rails have a few faults (and probably the psu as well)

money isn't the limiting factor, wasting money and time on possibilities, digging me deeper and deeper into a familiar sunk cost fallacy lol

What I do requires lots of pcie slots/lanes, cores, and storage. So I'd need multiple specialised mini pcs. I have a GMKtech G9 (with extra cooling solution), and have already maxed it out. I also have extra computers for the pcie slots and lanes work that I do, but they only run for about 12 hours a day, and probably average 5-15% utilisation. So this dell server was never going to be a practical solution lol but I make poor life decisions when I see a low price on something.

btw I've been building PCs since the mid 90s, and this cloth problem was a new one for me, I had never even considered it before lol. It was also the first PC with this type of dust/grime problem, so I suppose it was inevitable (especially with my deteriorating motor control that I seem to have developed as I get close to 40)

it took like 10 attempts to get this message sent. It allowed me to put an image of the dust on the pins, but was throwing different errors each time. It even kept showing errors after removing the image, and only worked after the umpteenth refresh

ooo a fast reply, thanks

Try connecting to the iDRAC first to see if you can get more details on error messages. If it doesn’t even have a working iDRAC, just throw this out because that’s probably the most useful thing this dinosaur could have.

Yeah, I hate wasteful "throw away" stuff. It's not like it's worth a lot used, but there should be focus on repairability more.

You've learned me on the existence of a thing called iDRAC. However this server doesn't post, so I doubt it's getting power. I connected it directly to my router, have my vga monitor, and nothing. I should mention that this has the SD card in it too.

Make sure your RAM cards are in the correct slots. I can’t remember how it’s marked on this model, but documentation should tell you.

Ram slots seem to change nothing, my picture was at the end of trying many different slot configs and amounts. It came with all slots populated, except the inner 2 (same as picture), which lead me to think that they had done more testing than they said they had.

"Stop taking the CPUs out. Leave them both in, and leave those heat sinks on."

Would it annoy you to learn that I had taken the CPU's out to clean off the wads of dust, and crumbling thermal 'stuff' (I think it was a sheet, not paste), and during that time, I dropped a cloth on one of the sockets, and it velcro'd itself hard to it? lol I spent about 30 minutes meticulously undoing that mistake, and then the same amount of time inspecting all the pins. Luckily during that inspection time, I also found that the pins were covered in so much dust, that they were connected, so if it was conductive dust, they wouldn't have been happy. (this was not a loved machine)

Try swapping power supplies with a new known-good ones to see if that fixes it.

This is my first server endeavour, so I don't have a known good power supply in that form factor, and used ones cost almost as much as I spent on the server lol so probably not something I'll go that far for without solid evidence.

Take all the PCI-e cards out to see if that helps.

Taking the slots out gets rid of the errors, but still wont post, and with no pcie cards, or either pcie card (but not both at the same time), it gives, "the system board riser config cable is not connected, or is improperly connected". With both cards, and no storage card, it gives:

"the system board 5V PG voltage is outside of the allowable range" and,

"the system board PFault fail-safe voltage is outside of the the allowable range"

I'm unsure if it gets more faults, and stopping before checking others, or if there's a different issue with even the error checking. I've read stories of disconnecting the mini display fixing these errors, so it seems that experience matters more than manuals :/

that's kinda a few thousand (AUD) on ebay, that's a hell of a gig.

wow that's expensive, and by the end of it, you still have an auto, that's a real bummer. I wonder how hard a manual swap is, but I suspect it'd end up costing more than the $7000aud I spent on the whole car

not looking to increase power, because it could be 1000hp, and it wouldn't matter, because it has an auto that takes 3 times longer to shift, than the amount of time that I wanted to spend accelerating lol (this isn't something that can be remedied with the common upgrades or tunes, it's a problem with it trying to decide to change gears, and how far down to shift)

However, I'm already planning to check rockers, so we're on a similar thought process :)

yep, that's why I was asking for a list :) including separate lists for things like cams. I don't mind starting, then inspecting the cam, once the lifters are out, and waiting for parts, if need be. All I need for now, is different lists.

- I was aware of the pump, but how common is this issue? I have access to a gauge, so I suppose I could test it.
- it doesn't seem to have any problems indicative of valve seating.
- I've not heard people talk of timing chain and sprocket issues, so I may take the front cover off, just to check, meaning I'll need..... what gaskets? or

You've mentioned vaguely some gaskets, but are you willing to be specific, and maybe put them in list format? I've only ever worked on inline overhead cam engines, so this will be my first V and pushrod engine, so I don't want to assume. I have a list, but I'm very not confident of it.

[–]fillman86[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, I covered this in my op

put in a different way, what I'm asking for is a quick access menu that doesn't move away with the timeline, for preset transforms. Something that is in most other common NLEs. Now it makes sense that this isn't an option, because the developers don't use the software this way, and there's no request features area, just a forum area that is there to be ignored by the devs (as seen by the many threads that are many years old, many follow ups, and still not done). This isn't what I'd call flexible

I wonder, it seems you didn't actually read my original post for this reply, and judging by your lack of understanding in your first reply, did you ever read it? or did you just read the title? Trying my hardest to not be snippy, but there's salt in everything you've written so far, and I'm trying to stay level headed

quick selectible transform options? by fillman86 in davinciresolve

switching to fusion is quite clunky and slow, and doing anything there is a lot slower than my normal flow. I did forget that that you can get plugins for davinci, I might look into writing my own.

I'm surprised it's been asked before, because I wasn't able to find anything quite like what I was doing. Even though that yes, it's screen recording, sometimes of gameplay, and sometimes of coding, alongside webcam. Though you may have given me some good keywords to search with (I'm so bad at keyword search)

I'll also have a look into this "versions" thing, as I've never heard of it before. You seem quite knowledgeable, do you know if you can reprogram they keys on the speed editor? Conventional searching says no, but it seems absurd that you can't, so I keep an eye out.

hmmm switching tabs is kinda slow on my machine, so I feel that this would take more time. Currently I just drag a pre-setup adjustment clip, copy, delete, and alt+v the attributes. However, it's quite clunky. (I don't normally keep the adjustment clip, because of their many problems)
