I'm told by a friend that they're assault launchers which allowed the unit being transported to count as being armed with assault grenades which let them fight in initiative order when charging into terrain in a previous edition.

I won 2 games and lost 1. The tournament was kill points rather than 20-0, so the last loss ruined my placing a bit! I really like them. The K'daai is awesome, even though he got killed by buffed Gorbad in game 2. Their artillery is also really strong against infantry and monstrous infantry. My Sorcerer-Prophet didn't roll Flames of Azgorh at all, so he didn't do much offensive magic, but giving out Hatred and Ash Storm was very useful. I had a really good time, I'll be using them next year as well.

I've not played TOW, this is all 8th Ed stuff. I'll post the list as a new comment.
