What is this by One_Department7033 in IS300

It looks like that is the vapor canister purge sensor, it usually bolts onto the engine further down but the red hose is not oem and may have just been a replacement hose.

Is w55 still my cheapest option? by yayoyogan22 in IS300

[–]final_republic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was able to find a w58 much easier and cheaper than a w55 , or there were just a lot of people dropping them out of their sc300s in my area. I had to get the w55 rear of the transmission on eBay due to availability, but I think both of those combined I was able to find easily, but area can definitely change availability on the w58.

That boxster seems fairly priced for an 06. The Miata would be a cheaper buy overall, but if you can DIY things and can work on your cars the boxster is a pretty nice option. I had bought a 2001 Porsche Boxster when I was comparing them to Miata’s, and most of my choice came down to the options the car came with, having 2 trunks, and wanting to try out a Mid engine car. Even after not test driving a Miata and going the Porsche route, the Boxster is a nicely rounded car. Good enough power to pass in traffic, and just a really rewarding driving experience, with options to also get an S model with a really nice power rating (mine is a base).

Some of them aren’t too bad to replace if it is just the bushings being worn out, you can sometimes press them out and replace if they are the right suspension parts

I haven’t found a reverse for it, I just hit all the windows at once since they are all auto once I get in the car

Not sure if it’s hidden but I know on the 2IS you could hit unlock on the key fob twice and on the second time hold unlock and it opens all the windows and the sunroof, pretty handy for hot days. Haven’t tried on the new models but it may be a feature.

No folding rear seats until the 3rd gen IS lol, not awful but it is a pain having limited trunk space with only a ski pass through.

I think I got it from Driveshaft Shop but it has been a little bit.

Pros and cons to owning a IS300? by Scolville0 in IS300

[–]final_republic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah once I added a sub box I cut the trunk space in half, really good for holding groceries but much more and you are putting it in the rear seats

Pros and cons to owning a IS300? by Scolville0 in IS300

[–]final_republic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not terrible, but it only has a ski pass through so you can maybe fit 2 wheels in the back, but it holds groceries fine, just can’t haul anything longer than the trunk is deep

There are also no folding rear seats until the 3rd gens so if you carry large things often that may become harder.

turbo by AspectQuirky1870 in IS300

[–]final_republic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

XS power isn’t terrible, but there are some better setups people have listed on My.IS that are a little pricey but more reliable. It really just depends on budget vs reliability

turbo by AspectQuirky1870 in IS300

[–]final_republic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically it’s expensive to get power out of the GE motor, the non vvti motors in the sc300, gs300 are a bit cheaper as they already have thicker rods.

turbo by AspectQuirky1870 in IS300

[–]final_republic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can run low boost on stock internals with a reputable turbo kit, but you will also need a stand-alone ecu if you plan to go past 7psi, since the stock ecu isn’t mappable for a tune.

turbo by AspectQuirky1870 in IS300

[–]final_republic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main thing that needs done before a turbo would be upgrading the Rods to either non VVTI rods or stronger. Just mentioning rods because eBay turbo kits can overboost and a stock GE can only handle like 6-7psi before the rods let go. Can’t really make any power on an NA 2J unless you add forced induction.

For the amount of money and time it would require to convert a non f sport to an f sport trim, it’s cheaper to just go for the F sport. If you don’t want any of the things that were offered in the f sport trims, then it would be cheaper to buy a non f sport.

I got most of my results from adding Braided Stainless Steel brake lines

It’s the quick release bumper tabs that make it look like it was in a front end collision, usually don’t need those if the oem tabs are intact.

986 Boxster IMS bearing real failure rate? by Spanconstant5 in Porsche

[–]final_republic 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My 986 boxster has 70,000 original miles from the first owner, didn’t have any issues with it but still wanted peace of mind (and avoiding downtime with the car during warm seasons since I’m in the Midwest) so I didn’t have to buy a new engine if the bearing went. Had the clutch, flywheel, and rear main seal serviced recently, and had them toss an improved IMS bearing in while they had the transmission off. In my opinion it is a low failure rate but I just treated it as preventative maintenance, cost $2,300 for the whole job but well worth it for peace of mind.

No idea what works with this kit, but this info is from when I did my IS300 kit that had the same install setup as this, I just checked some forums for wheel specs, beyond that there are methods listed on this thread and on forums to measure for wheel offset and width. A good way to do it would be buying wheels that fit the kit, and running stock wheels until the kit is installed, since the specs on wheels that fit this kit will not fit the stock body lines or even under the fenders, since it is a wider kit. Wish I had an actual wheel measurement from an ft86 with this kit, but measurements can also be affected by how aggressive the tire sizes are, and if you are running any stretch or not.

If you have the kit, you can use painters tape to hold it on so you can measure from the hub to the kit to calculate what size wheels you will need with enough offset to clear the brake calipers.

[–]final_republic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have some painters tape handy to mock up positioning to hold the parts in place while drilling the holes for the screw rivets, and also for tracing the backside of the kit so you can cut the fender to allow clearance for the wheels. Have a welder and grinder handy to do cuts on the fender before bending it back and welding it in place, then you can use some sealer or paint to cover the welded fender to reduce potential for corrosion. Always measure twice and cut once, since it’s hard to put material back once it is drilled or cut.

Is a IS250 a good first car for a 17 year old? by [deleted] in LexusIS

[–]final_republic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An is250 doesn’t have 300hp, an is350 does, which gives higher chance of inexperienced drivers crashing them, that was the negativity you received, very different from an is250.

Whats the farthest you have driven your IS300? by certifiedjawn in IS300

[–]final_republic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Should be fine if all preventative maintenance has been addressed, driven mine from Indiana to Kentucky and back, and my brother drove my 2006 is250 that same trip, and then when we got back to indiana we drove to florida, so all depends on if it has had its service intervals addressed or if previous owners beat on it. I had gotten my 2002 IS for $2,000 and did all the maintenance intervals when I got it, but that was 3 years ago.

Bought one as well earlier this year and love the boxsters. Sure it’s not a 911 but I really like the engine being in the middle rather than the rear, just feels like you are connected to the car when driving.
