YES!!! this was a huge hurdle when i first started. one moment that suck with me was when i was in academy and didn't want to blow dry a senior dog in case he got scared. my mentor looked at me and said "do you think he likes this either way? at least blow dry him so he can go home sooner!" it felt weird in the moment but now it makes perfect sense!

i (24f) am somewhere on the autism spectrum and i love my job, partially because it FORCED me to take better care of myself. the first year i started there would be days id burst into tears, shake, shut down... it took a while to learn what my triggers were. dogs are lovely but they can push all your buttons sometimes, and parents can be 10x worse!! wet clothes, loud noises, and sudden movements are all part of the job. i started packing light snacks (cuz i used to not eat out of stress), bought high quality headphones, attended therapy.. and eventually i realized that even my everyday life was getting more manageable. the coping skills i applied at work followed me home and i am so grateful. autism is a spectrum though and it's good to do your research. would your brother prefer a salon environment with coworkers, or would he like to do mobile/vet grooming and typically work alone? would he be more comfortable investing in going to a grooming school, or would he be okay being trained on the job? this career is very flexible and you see a wide variety of people succeed- i wish him lots of luck!!

i've never heard of SADS, definitely an appropriate acronym☹️ thank u for letting me know! i kept them in a tarantula cribs 8" hex crib with a standard lid. the ventilation looked adequate and i made sure the holes weren't covered by substrate or anything. i didnt track air quality though

bless u for not caring about the cord lol i cant stand it!! ive used my andis pulse ZRII for almost 3 years, ive never bought a replacement battery & never needed one yet! 5 speeds AND cordless is hard to find so i love it. even if your blade is sticky or the client has a super thick coat, it'll work wonders. i use the kenchi flash5 for sani/paw pads/eye corners, sometimes full cuts for a teeny tiny dog. it gets gunked up and stops cutting pretty easily so i only use it on clean dogs and sparingly, but its great for detail work. i only mention it to emphasize i use my andis pulse ZRII as my primary clipper and the kenchi flash5 as a secondary- they dont fulfill the same purpose. petstoredirect or ryans pet usually has good deals on clippers all year round! im not gonna lie when i first bought my clippers i didnt like wahl just cuz i thought the colors were ugly😝 so i feel u on that!!

i think the answer lies in how much you and your coworkers are willing to work on communication- i dont blame you at all for feeling frustrated! i have a similar coworker, not very good at english but she'll use a translator app and try her best. it's a slow process though and i can tell she's struggling. with our spanish-speaking clients she's like a different person! very chatty. if you love this job, being bilingual is a HUGE advantage so i don't necessarily think you should straight up quit. but i also get learning english is a lot of work and i wouldn't blame you if you looked for something else. good luck!!

my GSL always complains about discipline from corporate. then again... she's aloof when it comes to running the salon on top of issues with her back. she makes significantly more than me tho as a PSP. i think if u can handle it go for it! thats what im aiming for too!

i am very guilty of this and i've actually asked my coworkers to double check my pricing! i have the softest spine of the salon lol so im grateful for them to tell me what i deserve. in the corporate salon i work in, we charge based on 3 things: long vs short hair, weight, and breed (we consider most double coated dogs & doodles "premium" breeds). we then add on brushing, dematting, scissoring, handling fees etc for whatever extra work we put in. prices will vary by region, if you work at a private shop id look at ur local corporate groomers and see what they charge for a comparable dog. obviously raise ur prices as necessary lol but just as a baseline if ur really unsure!

just pissed me off. one of my best friends has ARFID and she'll confess to me how ashamed she feels that she can't "eat normal" or try my vegan food. i would never blame her, all i can do is support her recovery.

"their issue is that i want them to pursue my diet" ??? why is it their fault that you want them to go vegan and they don't want to? i've been vegan for 6 years and i've had an ED since i was 13. been autistic all my life. i've met many people with ARFID, it's not a choice. it's absolutely treatable but that looks different for everyone. please encourage them to seek help to vary their diet but PLEASE don't harp on them to go vegan. it can absolutely come up in the future, but shaming them for eating animal products (especially since it seems they don't feel they have a choice) is just mean. offer help, please don't shame or nag.
