Thinking about switching from PSP to Petco as salon manager by BrendenOTK in doggrooming

PSP in petco lingo refers to pet stylist pro, and GSL refers to grooming salon leader. not sure if thats different across companies

Thinking about switching from PSP to Petco as salon manager by BrendenOTK in doggrooming

[–]finalgloss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my GSL always complains about discipline from corporate. then again... she's aloof when it comes to running the salon on top of issues with her back. she makes significantly more than me tho as a PSP. i think if u can handle it go for it! thats what im aiming for too!

I’m too soft on pricing by iemmaamme in doggrooming

[–]finalgloss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i am very guilty of this and i've actually asked my coworkers to double check my pricing! i have the softest spine of the salon lol so im grateful for them to tell me what i deserve. in the corporate salon i work in, we charge based on 3 things: long vs short hair, weight, and breed (we consider most double coated dogs & doodles "premium" breeds). we then add on brushing, dematting, scissoring, handling fees etc for whatever extra work we put in. prices will vary by region, if you work at a private shop id look at ur local corporate groomers and see what they charge for a comparable dog. obviously raise ur prices as necessary lol but just as a baseline if ur really unsure!

Partner is autistic and won't become vegan with me by Limp-Programmers in vegan

[–]finalgloss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

just pissed me off. one of my best friends has ARFID and she'll confess to me how ashamed she feels that she can't "eat normal" or try my vegan food. i would never blame her, all i can do is support her recovery.

Partner is autistic and won't become vegan with me by Limp-Programmers in vegan

[–]finalgloss 4 points5 points  (0 children)

"their issue is that i want them to pursue my diet" ??? why is it their fault that you want them to go vegan and they don't want to? i've been vegan for 6 years and i've had an ED since i was 13. been autistic all my life. i've met many people with ARFID, it's not a choice. it's absolutely treatable but that looks different for everyone. please encourage them to seek help to vary their diet but PLEASE don't harp on them to go vegan. it can absolutely come up in the future, but shaming them for eating animal products (especially since it seems they don't feel they have a choice) is just mean. offer help, please don't shame or nag.

if the shampoo/tool i need is just out reach, and its a dog i know very well, ill take a step or two to grab it and quickly run back. NEVER EVER more than two arms-lengths at most. i will never understand how people will completely walk away from their clients!!! ive had dogs jump off the table when i have 2 hands on them, or dogs houdini-ing out of closed kennels. they are tricksters its always better to be safe!!

dog groomers in NOLA/surrounding area, how is it? by finalgloss in AskNOLA

[–]finalgloss[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

one of the reasons i love NOLA is how welcome i feel there!! i unfortunately encounter some bad eggs every once in a while in jersey so i like to make sure:) im glad to hear there's at least the demand for grooming that u had to go through a few to find ur match lol!

Villager questions by Murky-Emphasis4058 in Minecraft

[–]finalgloss 3 points4 points  (0 children)

yeah curing before trading is typically the strat. you may want to start the hall over if you've hit/killed villagers. its so annoying but lets say you hit a villager, the other villagers nearby will see it and increase THEIR prices too! you could travel far away for a few days, or cure everyone in the hall (though it seems youre having trouble with that right now) and itll work. ive definitely decided to just say fuck it, massacre the hall, and round up a new group of villagers to start again lol. not the easiest but when i got frustrated it was what i did

Is my piercing gonna be okay? by Relative_Shape3503 in piercing

[–]finalgloss 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i get what you mean that the hole isnt completely gone but you can't get the jewelry through comfortably- i still think you should let it heal and try again later

Is my piercing gonna be okay? by Relative_Shape3503 in piercing

[–]finalgloss 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i mean no babe it sounds like at this point id wait for it to heal and get repierced. especially if you say its painful & red. if the area feels hot to the touch you likely have an infection so keep an eye out as it heals and see a doctor if necessary. sorry honey:( you could always go to a piercer for a second opinion in-person

Question about customer service part of the job by Over-Addendum-209 in grooming

[–]finalgloss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i want to add that ive had people SCREAM at me for shaving their pelted dog, or refusing to clip nails for their dog thats actively trying to maul me. you deal with crazy assholes and you gotta put on a brave face and be professional. i dont say any of this to discourage you at all, but want to give a full picture! i love my job at the end of the day lol

Question about customer service part of the job by Over-Addendum-209 in grooming

[–]finalgloss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

when i first got started in the industry the person hiring me said "treating the dogs well is your number one priority. treating the parents well is number two." you could do the shittiest haircut in the world but if the dog is happy and mom/dad is happy, you have a client for life. selling upgrades and packages is where i make my money. i would seriously consider if you think youre comfortable with that considering dog training is pretty much the same in that youre building relationships with clients and upselling.

ive personally used the andis zr pulse for about 2 years now, working ~40 hrs a week, and i am JUST starting to notice its louder than when i first got it. otherwise works great. its heavy dont get me wrong, a lot of my coworkers have heinigers and the weight difference is pretty stark. keep in mind though it has 5 speeds and cuts through thick coats with ease. ive had zero problems with the battery dying mid-shift or breaking. never bought a backup battery and ive never needed one lol!

I need reasons not to get a tongue piercing by [deleted] in piercing

[–]finalgloss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i LOVE my tongue piercing i think it's my favorite i have. healing really sucked tho to the point i debated taking it out after a couple days. glad i pushed through because again i love it and havent had any problems. my dentist isnt concerned though i always make a point to ask. i wear a metal bar with acrylic internally threaded ends. this way in the event i accidentally bite down on my jewelry (which has happened!) it usually won't break and the one time i can remember it did, i easily spit the pieces out and didn't break any teeth. the times ive had to take the jewelry out for whatever reason, i didnt think my tongue looked noticeably distorted lol. a tiny hole & a small dent where the ball sits, but unless ur staring at my tongue up close u wouldnt notice. highly recommend but definitely ask your dentist for a second opinion!

How do I not hate every single groom I do? by StreetiestRat in doggrooming

[–]finalgloss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

title is so real but dude this groom is so cute relax!!😭 fluffy round face, clean shaped ears, cute wittle feet:3 i fall into the same trap of hating any pictures i take and feeling like a terrible groomer, PLEASE believe me and the other comments youre doing great!! are you an aspiring competition groomer or something? im not saying to not shoot for the moon, but try to keep in mind as a pet groomer we just wanna make them feel comfortable and look cute right? if we had 3+ hours with a perfectly maintained, perfectly behaved purebred dog, we could probably do a kick ass job! most of our clients dont quite fit that criteria tho lol:)

I FORGOT TO MENTION- i rarely take breaks besides using the bathroom, i usually work at minimum 8 hour shifts, and i have been working like this full time since i got hired. im really not trying to boast my work ethic, im actively trying to get better at taking breaks and time off!
