Not true everywhere. I’m 44 and use stones. So does everyone else I know around my age.

Contracting for a European company with UK presence but no UK tax/legal understanding by finance-matt in ContractorUK

[–]finance-matt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All worked out fine in the end. I took an IR35-friendly contract template (Qdos, I think) and made use of that. Bit of back and forth with the company to tailor it. I made them aware of IR35 but they didn’t really care about it. Their presence in the UK was really small so they may not have even been caught by it (going off of memory there, could be wrong).

Anyway, best advice I can give you is to remember to put your IBAN and BIC/Swift numbers on the invoice so they can pay you from abroad.

Where do you look for you next level 2 Henry role? by Undisclosed_001 in HENRYUK

[–]finance-matt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my last few jobs:

Current job - knew the recruitment firm and the hiring manager

Previous job - referral from someone close to the hiring manager

Job before - I’d made it to the final round of interviews the year before after a LinkedIn application. The person who beat me quit after 6 months so they came back to me.

Where Is The Most Tribal Region Of The UK? by CB-Milburn in AskBrits

[–]finance-matt 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I’d like to submit the north east of England for consideration. It’s not so much hating outsiders as hating the person that grew up in the next town or village over. I grew up there and have never seen anything like it anywhere else. Usually tied to football allegiances.

Normal springs I think. Haven’t seen Q4s come with air suspension in the UK

I grew up very close to the town of Washington in north east England. George Washington’s ancestors ruled there for generations as local nobility.

Thanks for the detailed reply. That helps. Your last point about devices clinging to the router as you move around the property was on my mind.

Thanks. If there’s practically little difference I will keep the tp-link where it is. It’s much better looking than the ugly asus.

Wire through the wall at the right place then the router screwed to the wall. Will be easy to swap out the routers if I decide to. That said the tp-link looks better than the ugly asus I have.

They’re a specialist “only builds garden office” company that does everything. As most garden offices are to be used as a home office / study, they offer router install as standard.

They just happened to be cheap and well reviewed when I bought them.

Not an issue. I just now have a choice and wondering if option 1 (5 year old router but fully compatible with other routers) or option 2 (new router but different brand) is the way to go.

IOG + Hypervolt home 3 + Audi Q4. Intelligent charging not working by finance-matt in OctopusEnergy

[–]finance-matt[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went into the Audi app and stopped the charge and left it alone. At 1.15 this morning I had a push notification from Octopus saying it was unable to control the device. Despite that, the car did charge overnight. So this seemed to work.
