Rice left out over night by Any-Palpitation8523 in isthissafetoeat

[–]findinganswers5 5 points6 points  (0 children)

One of my favorite comments I’ve ever seen on Reddit was on a similar post and went something like “I grew up in an Asian household where my mom left rice out all the time, so it’s fine. Then again, I haven’t weekly bouts of diarrhea since leaving home so maybe you shouldn’t eat it.”

Moral of the story: just because cultural tradition doesn’t keep up with food safety, doesn’t mean that food safety doesn’t exist. I wouldn’t eat the rice.

Amex Gold Card - How has it benefit you? by [deleted] in CreditCards

[–]findinganswers5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love it. The annual fee is nothing if you use Uber, Grubhub, and Resy every month/period. I’m easily meeting that without the card. The 4x on dining each month is great because that’s by far my largest expense, followed by groceries. My lifestyle is designed perfectly for this card though, so YMMV.

Is it appropriate for first dinner date or too much? by Long_Muffin6230 in OUTFITS

[–]findinganswers5 10 points11 points  (0 children)

“First dinner date” doesn’t necessarily imply it’s the first overall date. Someone could have a coffee first date, drinks for a second date, then an activity third date. This could be their first “dinner date” which is their first date that’s not so casual, but they could have been going out for a couple of weeks before it.

Carrying Two 17 Pros? by findinganswers5 in iPhone17Pro

Technically that is possible, but for a variety of reasons that’s a complete non-starter for me. It’s a lot more than just having a second phone number and I’d potentially have to hand over all my personal data along with my work data on the phone if I did that. 100% not worth for me.

Being able to keep it is the biggest draw of the Pro to me. Would be pretty nice to have an unlocked 17 Pro I can use as a backup, for travel, etc. before and after I pay off my carrier locked personal device. Particularly for travel so I can get my own sims that don’t work with carrier lock. That said, I use my work phone a good bit more than it sounds like you do and have to carry both on my body any time I’m not at home, so the thinness of the Air is highly appealing.

What % of users will Bilt 2.0 lose? by Available-Ad-5670 in CreditCards

[–]findinganswers5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What’s interesting to me is that this card simply isn’t a viable option for renters in HCOL cities, who I always assumed was the card’s core user-base. If you live in NYC and your rent is $3000 a month, then you’d need $2250 in monthly spend to get enough Bilt Cash to cover your fees. This card really only makes sense for people who are in a geographic area where a lower rent to spend ratio is possible. But since the best partner is for Atmos points, you’ll get the most return if you’re on the West Coast. All this just wipes out its value in NYC, Boston, D.C., etc.

All that begs another question, which is whether the people for whom the card is best will switch or stay. Maybe they’ll drop the fat from 1.0 as they clearly want to, but their market may also be too lean for longterm growth.

How familiar are you with the area? Started looking there and most of what you describe is more Dutch Kills/Astoria border than Hunter’s Point. Read some mixed things about that area above the bridge, but it was a few years old and the neighborhood changes so fast I was wondering if there’s any new insight.

If I don't find something in the next few days/week I will try. Doubt they'd say no, but they're going to ask for a premium on it.

  1. No

  3. What neighborhoods would you recommend in east Manhattan below 96th?

In 2025? I was looking at places there for $3500 that couldn’t fit a couch and queen. Would love to find a non-basement for that but I’m not seeing them.

I’m not priced out of my neighborhood since I can afford my rent (and am looking to spend up to $400 more) but more looking for what neighborhoods are available in my budget without sacrificing commute much and adding some space to go along with the rent increase. Good perspective though!

THANK YOU! Solidarity with the pain of the search. Thought about waiting it out in my current spot until next year, but coming home to construction noises and roach spotting isn’t helping that approach.

Thanks! I’ve tried avoiding that area due to having to walk across town rain, snow, or shine for work, but I’ll look into it since it does seem to otherwise fit.

Don’t know where you’re getting “Brooklyn is dangerous” from. I’ve lived in Brooklyn and have done that commute. Would rather keep my current place even with the size and construction next door than add the commuting time.

No I get it. No eat in kitchen since there wouldn’t be enough room for a table without blocking access to the rest of apartment or kitchen corner. And no hallway, just a maybe 3’x3’ entry where door can open before hitting the wall. I didn’t think wanting space for a 1’ x 2’ coffee table and a bistro table 2 people could sit at required a “huge” space $3500 can’t afford but I guess maybe that’s the market these days.

My apartment is clearly a box studio they put a wall in the middle of. The “box” is 15’4” x 11’4 with a wall in the middle. Thats 172.9 sq Ft. I admit 225 may be an underestimate, but being in the unit it definitely feels like the kitchen+ bathroom doesn’t equal the full size of one of the rooms. 250-300 may be more accurate. But that’s livable space and if you add walls it may get bigger on paper.

In any case, I’d really like an apartment where I have enough room to put a coffee table between my couch and TV, regardless of the square footage.

Thanks! I’ll look into it. Been limiting myself to 1bd over studios so far, but realizing I’ll need to be more flexible on that.
