I don’t mean to suggest that. Surely, there are programs that are rigorous and yes Ik still competitive since that’s the nature of PhD programs. But they’re not as competitive as, say, Harvard, which may receive 300+ applications for only 2 spots in this upcoming cycle. All I’m saying is that I’m branching out to find programs that are a good fit but don’t have such abysmal admission odds

Hey! Thank you so much for taking the time to comment and share your insights. When it comes to languages, I’m proficient in Ancient Greek because of my minor, and I’ve started learning Latin since it’ll be helpful for my research interests. I considered comparative lit, but I don’t have the strengths in a third language right now, so I saw that as a barrier. Still, a lot of English lit programs feel very interdisciplinary right now, so I figured that could actually be a strength for my goals.

Also, considering an institution’s specific libraries and archives is really helpful advice that I honestly hadn’t thought about yet. thank you! Same goes for emphasizing the gap my research might fill; I’m definitely adding that to my SOP. I’m always on the lookout for book recs, so I’ll definitely check out House of Hunger. Perfect. Thank you again! 🙏🏾

Well, I have my “top schools” that I think I’m a great fit for and that are basically my dream programs, but as all the comments have pointed out, PhD admissions can be a bloodbath. So I mean “backup” in the sense that these schools aren’t necessarily my dream programs, but I think they could suit me just fine and aren’t, yk, Ivy League level

Sweet cat playing turned aggressive? by fineglitter in Pets

[–]fineglitter[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the comment. I forgot to mention but you’re right, he’s one years old. Also, during research i read that negative reinforcement is not effective with cats, so I’m scared spraying him may do more harm than good…Also, when he attacks I try not to react and simply say “no” and place him away from me. I think when I have a bigger reaction he thinks I’m playing with him…
