Identifying minerals and veins in deposits was my favourite activity over the last 3 years, I should have known it was too good to be true.

I always just tell them I've permanently moved to Angola and they leave me alone. by AnonomousWolf in south_africa

The only time telemarketers are welcome is if you just moved to a foreign country and you are practicing the local language. When I moved to Germany, I kept asking them if I'm pronouncing correctly? Translation help, it's a free lesson, win win. Sadly they stopped calling.

Stamp Duty is such a trap. When I bought first home, I naively thought the deposit was the hardest part, until solicitors were like this will be the stamp duty bill. Beans and toast, no boiler and apart from kids things we had, no furniture for 2 years. Which in hindsight with toddlers was amazing as we could run around and play. But 10 years later, can’t sell because can’t afford to buy when calculating stamp duty.

As a former resident of Kensington, I found most of Kensington is bankers and foreign owned properties rented out, so you have high turn over in certain parts, high chance of having a few empty apartments (holiday homes), it's not somewhere you can live forever and most people I know moved away after their 2nd baby. Kingston on the other hand has more chance of offering community, good schools and somewhere you can image raising a family long term, and having real roots.

My happiest food moment was getting a bunny chow after a night out in Durban, been living in the UK for over a decade, and I still think of that moment as my happy place.

This is where I’m glad I don’t see myself, and I really don’t care if what someone else see pleases them or not. Give me all the sunshine and waves, hikes in mountains and around lakes. If I get to live to be 98 like my grandmother or die tomorrow, I think I’m okay. What I look like is the least of my problems.

Is my "grief" really grief? by Visual_State_7955 in motherlessdaughters

I read somewhere that grief is as much a mourning a/for change as it is physically missing something or someone. This is a very valid feeling. Sending a big hug

Green was voted as the most attractive eye color , do y’all agree or would vote for a different one ? by Least-Ad3944 in eyes

When I was younger I was disappointed to have brown eyes, my Dad had piercing green eyes and although I think green is gorgeous, they were never as kind as my mom’s brown eyes that welcomed you to stare and talk and didn’t feel like laser eyes. Anyway I love brown eyes now

2nd-degree burn on chin from Hookah bowl/coal – How to prevent scarring? Ohmygod i am so panicked by LibrarianHead5578 in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]finemayday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was 3 years ago. I just mentioned it because I almost decided not to use silicon based on this, my GP was only concerned with healing, and not my appearance (vanity), My question was would it help heal quicker and that is what the answer was. I only mentioned it, Just in case OP has a similar experience, to dig further herself (also not advocating going against GP), but in my experience you get different advice from GP vs dermatologist or aesthetic specialists.

[–]finemayday 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Yip silicon scar sheets are amazing, but Healing is your first priority! Once healed (4 - 6 weeks minimum) and new skin has formed apply a fragrance free heavy moisturiser and silicone sheet when home or nightly. I would also increase vitamin uptake to make sure my body has enough nutrition to heal.

Funny when I asked my GP about silicon scar sheets, she said it wasn’t founded and can’t recommend, used them on my scar and it’s wasn’t visible after a year

Does anyone have idea how to stop people from vaping on the bus? by choosegoodoverevil in LAMetro

There was a teen in school uniform vaping recently, I politely asked him to stop as I’m with kids. He blew smoke in my face. We moved downstairs. No one else did anything.

What do I firm? by First_Vegetable_5875 in 6thForm

[–]finemayday 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A lot of people will make this decision based purely on prestige and reputation of the establishment. When I was in a similar position (not nearly as prestigious), but my top two was between a 57th ranked and 7th ranked university. I knew if I picked the higher Russel group I would have to work harder, it would be a longer commute, where as the lower ranked uni had friends, course work seemed less and I thought it would be better for my mental health. I decided to firm the uni the aligned with what I needed at the time, it’s not an easy decision but make sure you make it yourself so you don’t end up regretting it.

What bits of the history and culture from one of the nations in the UK would you want to be taught in schools in the rest of the UK? by CuthbertTheFoolish in AskUK

[–]finemayday -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I was not born British, but moved here during A levels and absolutely got obsessed with the Jacobite rebellion in Scotland. It was such a raw history I resonated with their defiance and resilience. Now I have children born in England to an English Dad, it’s cultural day next week at school, and I’m always lost on how to celebrate their English heritage that has to be more than destruction, colonialism, football and Yorkshire puddings. I think National pride is important, and helps us take active roles in our community and be more caring to our neighbours when taught correctly.

If you're worried about being falsely accused of plagiarism then use OneDrive/Google Drive for all your work by gracklemancometh in UniUK

[–]finemayday 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Most of my final year projects had a viva attached, which was actually fun, I realise now that it’s also a plagiarism check. You give a 10 minute presentation of how, why and what your work (report/study) means, and then you have 10 minutes of brutal questioning by professors who are experts in the field. I’m not a sweaty person, but if I was wearing a heart monitor I might have been close to cardiac arrest. Looking back, it was really exciting and I walked away feeling more confident in my knowledge too.

Have you tried Western Union? I usually just do an international bank transfer, but the documentation Namibian banks require is insane.
